My Video Marketing Adventure V 6

My Video Marketing Adventure V 6

I started producing training videos back in May of 2010. And it certainly has been an interesting adventure that I thought was worth sharing. I posted my first video to YouTube in July and I set about to learn how to market on YouTube. About once a month or so I have updated my experiences.

All in all, it was been a very fun experience. I had been a disc jokey at the young age of 13 so I was used to microphone. I just never liked how my voice sounded recorded. This really held me back from wanting to do videos. I have listened to far to many videos that I stopped because the announcer voice was to difficult tolerate.

But someone came along and threw some money my way to make some training videos about local SEO. Amazingly, as I started recording I noticed that my voice had matured over the years and I no longer found it offensive. Which is a very good thing.

Since I had never done video before I had to learn how to use editing software and other related programs. But the bigger challenge was learning the ropes at YouTube. I was fortunate that early on I discover a tool called Tube Toolbox. It automates a lot of the basic functions like making friends requests. It has been a God send for me.

One thing that I have learned is that YouTube is much like other social sites like Twitter. It takes a while to get any traction. Friend requests and followers are easier to come by after you already have amassed a few hundred or so. Now, I rarely use Tube Toolbox as I get friend requests almost daily. It also helps if you have actually uploaded some videos.

At the present time I have 5 videos on YouTube. Two are pure promotional videos and three are instructional. All of these videos are ranking on the first page of the search results for their markets. Of these 5 videos four target Local SEO and they are currently ranking 6, 7, 8, and 9.

The other video is the most recent and it targets Google Places SEO and it is currently ranking number 6. I also have acquired 46 channel subscribers and 446 friends. My videos have received 11 positive to only one negative vote. That really pleases me the most about this process. I also have had a bunch of comments left on my channel. And over 1200 people have at least started my videos. So far I have exceeded my expectations.

But this also opens the door for others to take verbal jabs at me. Two of my competitors have made negative comments about my videos or my YouTube presence in general. When I read this stuff it makes me wonder if my detractors have been taking their meds when they blogged about me.

As long as I am happy and exceeding my own expectations I am content to continue the path that I am on. I have already set some simple goals for the upcoming year. I want to learn to add background music and some other additional features to my videos. The goal is simply to produce a better product.

The one thing that has really surprised me is the amount of blogs that have embedded my videos. I haven’t bothered to attempt to count them all but its several dozen so far. The nice thing about having your video embedded is that it helps your video rank higher on YouTube.

I did a little experiment where I stopped promoting my videos for 30 days. The only activity for these videos was coming from others posting my videos on their sites. At the end of the trial period all of my videos moved up in the rankings. This was a real wow moment for me. Others we spreading my videos for me to my benefit. I find this to be an extremely rewarding experience.

My next challenge is to add a click able link to my videos on YouTube. I started the process earlier today. This means that I had to finally get an AdWords account with Google. I paid my five bucks. But I had experienced some problems placing my first ad. It was late and I was tired. My ad kept getting rejected. So I called it a day and will try again soon.

It’s not a real high priority for me. It’s just one of those bumps along my learning curve. It’s likely something little that I missed. So there it is folks V 6 after six months.

Twitter Worth 3.7 Billion?

Twitter Worth 3.7 Billion?

I get the Wall Street Journal delivered to my home/office 6 times a week. Unlike many these days I do not use an e-reader like Kindle. I am old school in that I prefer to actually read a newspaper and I will continue to do so as long as they are still available.

I get most of my blogging material while on Twitter. The second my used source is from the day to day operations of this business. My third most popular source is the Wall Street Journal. Now, I should note that I seldom ever read the editorial pages, but it is a valuable business tool for me.

Yesterday, I noticed and article that said that Twitter is worth $3.7 Billion. What blew me away is the fact that Twitter has yet to become profitable. They haven’t done a very good job squeezing money out of advertising for now. This huge valuation is based on potential and has little to do reality.

This is a common problem with many if not most social media sites. They attract ten of million of users but they have trouble turning this user base into a profit center. It’s not like Twitter isn’t trying. They offer promoted Tweets for something like $100,000 a day. It’s difficult for me to see how this translates into new business for the advertisers.

I wish Twitter all the best. But I just don’t see that this valuation makes any sense.

A Season To Be Grateful

December 25, 2010

Welcome to the Google Places SEO blog at Tucson SEO Solutions

Before I get into today’s post I want to recognize and welcome our visitors from the Arizona communities of  Avondale or Tolleson.   Please know that you are here because I have specifically targeted you and your businesses need to rank well in the Google Places search results. I hope that you find this information useful.

A Season To Be Grateful

After growing into adulthood with out children to worry about  during the end of year holiday season this time of year has become not so special. Geri and I quietly spend the days together and usually don’t make much of a fuss about what day it is. This approach for me changed dramatically last year.

You see, on November 23 of 2009 Geri was hospitalized with a liver disease that became a life threatening event. She would end up spending Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years hospitalized and clinging to life. Then in March her new primary care physician gave her three months to live based on her condition at that time.

Well, Geri decided that she wasn’t ready to die and has staged a rather startling recovery. She is doing extremely well considering that she could use another liver! Of course, the wonderful state of Arizona has stopped funding transplants through Medicare. She also would also temporarily loose her medical coverage which we are appealing.

Fortunately, most of her medication are generic. She was able to acquire a 3 months supply for around $150.00. This was a real blessing. So yes, for me, this is a season to be grateful. Her illness has forced me to slow down and to spend more time with Geri doing things that she likes together.

As a side benefit of her illness she has had time to peruse her artistic talents. Our home is filling up with many of her home crafts projects. Geri’s artistic talent is something that I have always marveled at. If you are artistically challenged as I am it is easy to appreciate those that possess these skills.

I have learned to be grateful for everyday that we share together. I no longer just say I love you. I take the time to explain why I love her. This makes my words much more meaningful.

I am also grateful to still be in business. I have seen many shops in my central Tucson location shuddered in this economic downturn. Yes, I am grateful and looking forward to a better 2011.

Google’s Location Feature

December 24, 2010

Welcome to the Google Places SEO blog at Tucson SEO Solutions

Before I get into today’s post I want to recognize and welcome our visitors from the Arizona communities of Goodyear and Gilbert.   Please know that you are here because I have specifically targeted you and your businesses need to rank well in the Google Places search results. I hope that you find this information useful.

Google’s Location Feature

Google has a location feature built into its toolbar that can be a very useful feature for checking how well your site id ranking nationally. Of course you could use a rankings checking tool to do the same thing. The problem with these tools is that they violate Google’s TOS or terms of service.

If you simply go to Google and use its search engine you will likely be presented with tainted data. There are two reasons why your data gets corrupted. Google uses what it calls personalized search which presents you with results based on your search history. If you click on anything when you are searching it will effect future results.

This will produce results they may favor your site in the rankings. It might also negatively  impact your search results as well. This all depends on your search behavior. Google also is delivering search results based on your ip address. Thus if you want to see how your site is ranking nationally you will need to change the location feature.

In this first image you will see that I did a search for Niche SEO. The location feature was set for my location which is Tucson. Based on a Tucson search my Niche SEO page ranks # 1 for Niche SEO.

Local SEO Google Places Gilbert

In this second image you can see that next to the blue arrow that I have changed the location feature to Chicago. Next to the blue star you can see that this site Niche SEO page now ranks # 5. Now, I could change this to almost ant city other than Tucson and get a similar result.

Google Talks About Some Search Trends

Google Talks About Some Search Trends

Today I came across this video mentioned on Twitter. It is a discussion between Matt Cutts of Google and Danny Sullivan of Search Engine Land. It mainly refers to a recent post by Danny that covered the impact of Twitter and Facebook on your rankings.
