Blogging For Links Profit And Continuing Education V 2.0

It is the opinion of  Tucson SEO Solutions that the blog is the single most important marketing tool available. This business was built on the expertise gleaned from scouring the SEO/SEM blogging community. I have held this opinion when I got into this business about three years ago and I still do. However, I have abandoned using blogs for link building purposes. I did a small case study last year and I discovered that blogs were an ineffective link building method for me as my comment where getting caught up in spam filters.

The problem was I would often use something like Urban @ Arizona SEO. Because I used SEO the comments were getting automatically rejected. I discovered that most blog owners don’t look for good comments that may have accidentally got caught in spam filters.

The downside of this decision was that I was no longer getting new business from blog commenting. I have compensated by using almost exclusively web 2.0 social media sites. This produces lots of visitors but no direct business has been attributed to this method so far.

If given a choice between learning SEO or internet marketing between blogs or forums I would definitely choose the blog. While forums can easy produce a bunch of low quality links quickly they are generally poor sources for acquiring useful advice. Forums do generate more traffic so it depends what you wish to accomplish, but they have not been business generators for us.

Where is the original post:

It is the opinion of Tucson SEO Solutions that the blog is the single most important marketing tool available. This business was built on the expertise gleaned from scouring the SEO/SEM blogging community.

I often tell the tale of cleaning houses during the day as a one person cleaning service. Then studying SEO and SEM and for 8 to 10 hours a day every day for four straight months. I visited thousands of websites along the way. Back then (18 months ago) when we started website marketing blogging for links was easy, time consuming, but easy. That was before “No Follow’ ruined the legitimate white hat practice of blogging for links.

By the time our house cleaning website launched in January 2007 we had already gathered 1400 industry specific links. We combined the power of these links with our new knowledge of Page Titles, Page Descriptions, Geo-targeted SEO and fresh content into a winning combination.

That website landed on the first page of Google several times over within three days of launching! It has been there ever since. Its eco friendly house cleaning tips blog has been first page ranked for nearly as long.

The blog is essential for providing fresh content for the static website that the search engines crave. A blog, when used frequently can help your website obtain and maintain high search rankings.

When you blog you can:

* Still acquire links
* Learn a whole lot
* Share with others
* Profit in many different ways
* Obtain and maintain high search ranking
* And maybe even have some fun!
* Win stuff

We simply would not be here today, if it where not for blogs. It still blows me away when I visit a website marketing business’ website that doesn’t have a blog. We believe so much in blogs that they are standard issue on every website that we build. We also include training to use the software as an effective marketing tool. We believe a blog is useless if the website owner doesn’t know how to use it effectively. (I no longer offer web site development services)

We simply will not build a website that doesn’t include a blog. We feel that strongly about the subject. It is too powerful a tool to be missing, especially if you have a static website. The blog also provides a vehicle for your customers to interact beyond normal business channels. (We no longer build websites)

Many of website visitors to a service website will be doing research for a future purchase. The blog allows you to educate this group, share your expertise, and experiences. When done properly the blog can communicate a certain level of trust.

Trust is critical when the businesses service requires coming to or entering someone’s home. Dependability, reliability, and safety are paramount to this group. Again, the blogs can easily allow you to address different segments of your customer base.

We, often refer to blogs as stages, or sounding boards. If you love what you do your blog readers will easily see this; and the bonds of trust can begin to be established.

The blog also is a great tool when used to create inbound links. That is why we are working on our own “Do Follow Blog Lists.” These lists have turned out to be a great link building tool for us. When we visit SEO/SEM sites to verify their linking status, we leave a comment, pick up a link, and let the owners know that they are on our list.

It still blows me away when I visit SEO sites that haven’t implemented a blog on the own site. But then we clearly understand, that we are here today because others blogged, we read, learned, and applied what we had learned. The rest they say is history.

The only real drawback is that blogs do require a lot of time and attention to be successful.

More to the update: One of the reason that I have been updating these old posts is due to Geri’s illness. Updating old posts is much quicker that finding new material and starting with a new post. Because her illness can rock my world for one to two weeks at a time when she hospitalized it makes blogging nearly impossible. I have found that I can rewrite 4 or 5 posts in the time that it takes me to deliver a new post. For now, I am attempting to stay a week ahead of the game by scheduling a post daily. This post places me at the 7 day threshold.

Update 05/30/2011: I just wanted to report that I just acquired a new client recently. That clients indicated that the blog played a major part in their decision to hire Tucson SEO Solutions!

What Are You Fishing For? V 2.0

May 30, 2011

Welcome to the Google Places SEO Citations blog at Tucson SEO Solutions.

This blog covers local SEO which is dominated by Google, Google Places and the need for citations. The blog also covers just about any thing related to Google search results and related topics. I hope that you might glean some useful resources while you are here.

What Are You Fishing For? V 2.0

I wrote this article originally back when the blog was very new and a lot has changed since then. This article is about linkbait something that we have specifically tried on several occasions. We launched the blog by promoting Do Follow blogs and Forums. It was a very successful effort if all you consider is getting noticed and acquiring backlinks. This project was mentioned on over 50 different blogs.

It also produced a whole bunch of spam comments for us. I really didn’t care at first because the blog was no follow back then. However, it unfortunately made it easier for these blogs on the list to be spammed. What we thought was a good idea turned out to be not so much a good idea. We updated and maintained these listed of  blogs and forums. We broke them down into categories to make them easy to use. We invested over 1,000 hours into that project before we ended up pulling them due to spam abuse.

I would follow this up with a program that we called The 109 Day Link Building Explosion. For 109 days I offered 5 short reviews of sites that provided Do Follow backlinks. I also started encouraging my program readers to consider Scratch My Back Marketing. This drove a huge amount of traffic to our site but these visitors ignored my requests to leave a useful comments. I would eventually remove this program as well.

Since then I have focused on promoting this site on other sites by using Scratch My Back Marketing. I have decided trying to lure spammers with linkbait just wasn’t what I wanted to do anymore. I still consider a well run link bait program to be very worth while, but it is definitely not something that I wish to do anytime soon.

Here is the original post. It was found to write as it included some references to where I grew up.

What Are You Fishing For

I love it when I read articles about linkbait. I really do love to read about creative linkbait approaches. There is so much of the same old do this or do that that on the subject it can get old quickly. So when I read about novel ways to lure people into linking to your website I pay attention.

It also reminds me of my days growing up along the banks of the Allegheny River and the French Creek in rural Franklin, Pa, as in Pennsylvania. Except that we called the creek a crick. I know go figure, but that slight regional variation is very important when considering keyword development, but that’s for another post.

As a youth in rural Pennsylvania there wasn’t much to do other than to go fishing. So I did a lot of fishing with two major rivers within walking distance. When fishing you generally choose what fish to target on any given day based a multitude of factors such a time of day, water conditions, available food sources, and what you ultimately want to catch.

Then I had to choose which river to I was going to fish that day. I would have to choose between the huge Allegheny River or the smaller but robust French Creek. Once the river choice was made I would have to choose between slow deep waters or faster shallower waters. There is a lot to consider if you want to be successful fisherman.

Now, I would have to have to choose my bait wisely to match my prey of the day. That choice was based on a myriad of environmental conditions, if I wanted to be successful. It also had a lot to do with what I had available. Your bait must be attractive to your targeted fish and be delivered in a way that induces a bite when you want.

Choosing a linkbait for your website is very much like fishing. The bait needs to be targeted towards the group of websites that can provide you useful relevant backlinks that are Do Follow. This is where effective linkbaiting can be very difficult. It can be very easy to create a bunch of links with a very creative baiting method, but getting the desired fish to bite is a lot more difficult.

As any seasoned fisherman knows you can catch a lot of unwanted fish while going after a targeted species. The same thing is true with any linkbaiting method. So when developing linkbaiting programs or methods don’t loose site of your target.

There is another huge benefit to linkbaiting for the blogger that is not often written about. A good linkbait effort can generate hundreds of comments. If your blog is part of a website, those comments provide lots of fresh content that will boost the overall website in the SERP’s.

This is where a great page title that includes a targeted keyword phrase or two can be very beneficial. When titling your page focus on a targeted keyword phrase. Your linkbait comments can break you into the first page of results for that targeted keyword phrase. So linkbait if done correctly can not only supply you with a flood of new links to can assist your website in the SERP’s.

Does Your Service Website Meet The Needs Factor? V 2.0

May 25, 2011

Welcome to the Google Places SEO Citations blog at Tucson SEO Solutions.

This blog covers local SEO which is dominated by Google, Google Places and the need for citations. The blog also covers just about any thing related to Google search results and related topics. I hope that you might glean some useful resources while you are here.

Does Your Service Website Meet The Needs Factor? V 2.0

Sometimes, especially when this blog was new and I wanted to make daily posts I would write short and to the point articles. I have never been one to do much linking out to other sites when I write. I would rather tell the story myself than rely on others to tell the story for me. A lot of what I wrote about in the early days of this blog came from observations. I have again refreshed an old post that deals with service websites.

A service websites job is for lead generation for the services that they provide. However, most of them fail to realize that their job is mainly to fill a need. This post takes a look at the needs factor for these types of websites.

The original post:

It is fair to say that many buyers of website services and many designers don’t understand that service website visitors are “Need Buyers.” These buyers, as a group, do not want to be provided with any “Wow Factor” from your website.

Believe me, when my vehicles AC wet out on April 14th in Tucson, I wasn’t buying “Wow” when I did my Google search for “Auto AC repair Tucson.” I needed my AC fixed, as of yesterday. I was a “Needs Buyer.”

All I cared about was, could you solve my problem (Need) today? (Benefit) During my Google search if I clicked towards your website and it loaded slow because of flash on the site I would just click away.

If you didn’t make it easy for me to determine that you could solve my problem I would also leave. It’s fair to say that most service purchases are accompanied with a fair amount of stress. This is especially true for purchasing for buying website services. The consumer generally isn’t sure what is best for their needs.

Our websites are designed to clearly define what your website is offering. We also define the benefit for the consumer. The benefit here is that you are the business that best can fulfill their needs. We also assist you in providing what is known as “a call to action.” This is the part where you actually ask for their business.

The service business website needs to create leads and appointments, so there primary goal is to create an inquiry by email and preferably by phone. If the designer that you are choosing doesn’t understand how to build a website for the ‘Needs buyer” you should probably find one that does.

Think about it…. If your homes roof is leaking or your car will not start, do you really care about a websites look and feel? No, you want to know this, “Can you solve my problem, and can you do it  now?

More to this update: Tucson SEO Solutions no longer offers website design or redesign services although we still have pages on the site for these services. We will work with clients to improve their content so that its is developed to create a sales funnel. I am not a designer and I simply could not find designers who could follow my instructions and timetables. It just became more hassle than it was worth.

Niche SEO What A Concept V 2.0

May 24, 2011

Welcome to the Google Places SEO Citations blog at Tucson SEO Solutions.

This blog covers local SEO which is dominated by Google, Google Places and the need for citations. The blog also covers just about any thing related to Google search results and related topics. I hope that you might glean some useful resources while you are here.

Niche SEO What A Concept V 2.0

Yes, this is yet, another look down this blogs memory lane. Niche SEO What A Concept is one of the posts that I really enjoyed and I am going to take another look at today.

I have grown to really appreciate Niche SEO and the long tail keyword phrase. The reason is very simple it is very easy to obtain high results rankings when entering into niche markets. As I have often pointed out that local SEO is all about Niche Markets. When you define any product or service by a geographic location you have created a niche market. I still cringe when I see local businesses that still are using Google AdWords to drive traffic to their websites. It is usually a waste of money.

Niche Markets however, are not limited to a single geographic area. For many companies the lack of competitors in their markets define them as niche. My first large account was from a company that I had previously work for in another century. They manufactured dust collection equipment used in manufacturing processes. There is only a very small group of competitors globally for these products. Yet, after eight years their website was doing poorly in the search results.

The interesting challenge for this business was that several other markets were competing in the “dust collection” category. They were competing with direct competitors. They also were competing against vacuum cleaners and home dust collection units. This actually made this niche way more competitive than it would initially appear to be. Fortunately, none of these industries had embraced SEO yet.

As it turned out I was able to rank their site high onto the first page of the Google results for dust collection. This came as a surprise to me. I had originally told them that because of competing industries in this market that this likely would not occur. This is why I like niche markets so much. There is little competition to begin with and most of your competition will likely not be actively deploying SEO or a link building program.

What amazes me even more is that I have been able to conquer dozens of SEO related long tail keyword phrases in an industry that knows the rules and the ropes. This has in most cases been extremely easy to do. I think my brethren often rely on AdWords when they can not succeed in the search results themselves.

I known that I have recently noticed one of my direct competitors here in Tucson has begun to actively use AdWords to gain business. They can’t get business by out ranking me in our home market so they have had to depend on paid traffic. They had an opportunity in the past to outsource to me and choose another path now they pay for almost every visitor.

This is the path many businesses take when they can’t rank well and is so sad because niche markets are so easy to overcome.

Here is the originate post Niche SEO What A Concept:

We live in Tucson, Arizona, which is a website marketing backwater of sorts. Most business owners that I speak with at my many networking events have little knowledge of the services that we provide.

I ran a local SEO meet-up group but we were lucky if 5 people showed up. So it’s not easy to find a group to talk shop with. Desperate to mingle with others in the industry I traveled the 125 miles north to Phoenix to attend an SEO Meet-up group there.

It was run by a woman from New Mexico. She holds the Arizona franchise for a training academy and travels here monthly to provide training and to market herself through this group.

I was especially thrilled by what I had learned at this gathering. The focus of the meeting was to share our favorite SEO tools and website. It’s always nice to come across useful resources, especially the ones that are free.

In a private conversation after the meeting I discovered that this woman had been providing SEO services and training for seven years. Which is to say, a way long time in this industry.

I mentioned that we specialized in niche SEO and she expressed amazement at what she just heard. The concept of Niche SEO seemed about as far away as Yuma, Arizona or her native New Mexico. She explained that she had never heard of niche SEO before today. Actually, I wasn’t sure who was more surprised me or her.

Our version of niche SEO is exactly what the name implies. We offer SEO to niche industries. It’s merely a more focused approach to SEO. We simply go where the competition isn’t. After all, isn’t this what keyword search and long tails are all about? It’s about finding niches that are related to our client’s products or services that others are not using.

# 4 Out Of 156 Million V 2.0

May 23, 2011

Welcome to the Google Places SEO Citations blog at Tucson SEO Solutions.

This blog covers local SEO which is dominated by Google, Google Places and the need for citations. The blog also covers just about any thing related to Google search results and related topics. I hope that you might glean some useful resources while you are here.

# 4 Out Of 156 Million V 2.0

Lately, I have been going over my previous posts and refreshing the ones that I really liked. I particularly liked this post as I believe that it goes a long way to debunk the Google Sandbox theory. When I started this blog I used Do Follow Lists to promote the blog and site.

In a very short amount of time we were able to take our Do Follow Lists onto the first page of Google. While the content of that post (the lists) have been removed the post still rank very well, as in # 1 in the Google SERP’s. Not very many blog post are still ranking on the first page of Google almost two years later. If you know your market well and are willing to put in the effort you can rank well, and very quickly, in most markets.

The market for the keyword phrase Do Follow List and Do Follow Blog List has become much more competitive since then. When I first went after this phrase there were a lot of web pages that included these words on their page, as in 156 Million. However, not many of these where doing so for commercial purposes. That has changed dramatically since then with hundreds of sites selling some kind of Do Follow product. I seriously doubt that we would have this rapid success today. Often success in search and in life is all about timing.

Here is the original post # 4 Out Of 156 Million:

Our SEO practice is all about developing and exploiting niche opportunities. Since SEO is basically a numbers game, you want to target your keyword phrases that are actually being used, but that have only a few competitors. It comes down to the fewer competitors the better.

So while we do well at landing this website on the first page of results for SEO related searches, these would not be considered competitive. That’s the whole purpose of what we are trying to achieve.

So today, I read a question on a forum that I had never visited before. It asked “what is the most competitive keyword that you have ranked for?” I knew that we ranked high for the search “Do Follow List” but I never pay any attention to how many results came up on a Google search for this term. Well, the answer is that we are #4 out of 156 Million search results… Wow!

All of those ahead of us have had 8 months to a year or more advance lead on us. So to say that we are pleased would be an understatement. I am still a little bit in the clouds over this revelation.

We were able to accomplish this because we put in over 300 hours developing the list and marketing it effectively. The whole project was created as linkbait for the relaunching of our website and it has worked very well.

05/15/2011: The Do Follow List would eventually end up ranking extremely well for over 2 years. Most of that time it ranked # 1. It continued to rank well for a year and a half after the contents had been removed due to spam. As it turned out all of these spam comment about a list that no longer existed keep the post ranking well. But I finally got tired of this spam traffic and I removed all 10 Do Follow lists.

This caused a 50% drop to the website and it eliminated most spam comments. That post still is one of the most visited pages on the site even thou it no longer exists. It now redirects to the blogs main page!
