Marketing “U” - http://marketingu.ning.com

I am reviewing another Ning website, but before I do I just want to mention what I terrific opportunity these Ning sites represent. They are full of all sorts of marketers but very few truly seem to appreciate what a tremendous resource these sites can be. All Ning sites links are DO Follow if the network is open to the search engines and many are.

The trick to in discovering which ones are open is to click off the home page. If you are not taken to a login page then the network is closed and useless for link building purposes. However, if you land at a page that is viewable then the site is open and useful to the link builder.

Using these sites effectively means adding content such as blog posts, videos, and photos. Every item placed on these sites should be done with SEO in Mind. Your blog post should include your targeted keyword phrases and so on.

Now, I will swing back to discussing Marketing U. The site has about 550 current members. On this site the forum posts will appear on the home page but not blog posts. This is very important to understand when using these sites for branding and networking. The sites owner controls where features appear and this is often different from one site to the next.

The site is currently not hosting videos but photos can be placed onto the site. The forum area includes 33 discussions. The site makes money through advertising in its groups. These groups are limited to the “top three.” This basically means these folks applied and paid a fee. This is a unique approach that I have not seen previously on a Ning site.

The site has some very unique if not strange ways of expressing things. The new member invite page is called “magnetize.” This site is all about making money for the owners and there is nothing wrong with that. The site promotes, promotes, and promotes some more!

Media Starz - http://www.mediastarz.co.uk

This Ning site is from the UK. The site currently has about 700 members. I rather like its tagline “Advertising & Media Community - Sharing Information - Creating Friends.” The site has a somewhat usual outer border that repeats the same image over and over. This is a basic feature of Ning but it is seldom used.

The site seems to favor videos which are prominently displayed on the home page. You have to do a bit of scrolling to discover the forum and blog posts on the bottom of the page. The site hosts 168 videos and many of the blog posts include videos as well. It also includes 232 blog posts but only 2 forum discussions areas that have almost 190 topics available. As with most Ning sites there are usually many more blog posts than forum discussions.

Again I want to remind you that when you use Ning sites or any sites mentioned here use them respectfully and responsibly.

MITX - http://www.mitxexchange.org

This is another Ning site. I like how the tagline reads “The Community For Digital Marketing, Media, & Technology Professionals.” When I joined this network I had high hopes. Today those hopes meet reality.

I had placed three blogs posts on the site. Today I discovered that those posts are mired on my profile page and on the blog page, but not the home page. It seems that the sites owners have exercised some editorial control here. It appears only a few favored members get their blogs posts onto the home page. I am not in this group.

Generally blogs posts appear in three locations on these sites. They will appear on the home page, the blog page, and in your profile. You should go easy about linking to your own site in the post unless you are linking to a tool or a non sales page. What I suggest is that you include a signature with your posts. It should include your name, the business name, maybe a phone number, and finally a live website link Thus each blog post could potentially be worth three links.

I have specifically used this site to make a point that just because you are allowed to become a member doesn’t mean that you will have complete access to the site. If the site is a marketing tool for a specific business their may be on incentive for the owner to not allow your content to be featured.

This is the first time I have experienced this. The usual course of action is that you simply get banned from the site without explanation. This has occurred to me at least a half dozen times. To avoid allowing someone into a network and then banning them the owners could simply moderate all registrations. Most owners do not take this approach. So do know this that Ning Networks do have there quirks that are based on who owns the site and how they want to operate.

Eric Bramlett - http://www.ericbramlett.com/blog

This blog is an Austin, Texas based real estate site. It features half a dozen areas in the Austin area. It appears that the blogs owner is an agent who understands the power of the blog. Blogs can be a very effective marketing tool for realtors when executed properly. The blog features a lot of useful information but is very geographically specific. The blog owner appears to make anchor text links no follow. So unless you are in real estate this one may not be very useful for you.

I was going to check out this blog, Big Bucks Blogger - http://money.bigbucksblogger.com to see if it was worth reviewing. However, the blog has not been active for a very long time. Mess with Google and paid posting and you might run into trouble. The last post on this blog dates to November 2007. Yep, the blog is still there but the Blogger claims to have had a run in with Google and never wrote another post. The article talks about being punished for mentioning several paid posting companies. Google does not appreciate this practice.

I can not validate this person’s claims. However, you really need to pay attention to what Google is saying about SEO and link building. There are no short cuts in the process that is why we encourage our readers to join us in our Scratch My Back Marketing approach. This Ning site focuses on list building which is a very important aspect of Internet marketing. Since we will be launching a new site this summer this is something that could come in handy for us.

The List Building nexus has about 560 or so members currently. I hope to learn a whole bunch on the site. It appears to have a pretty good handle on spam which is very nice indeed. The site is a little short on useful videos which is a bit of a disappointment. It also seems a bit light on forum and blog posts.

After reviewing the site in more detail it has turned out to be more of a disappointment than anything else. I had high hopes but found the site lacked a depth of useful material. There may yet be goodies waiting to be discovered I just didn’t find any this time around.

Mail Chimp - http://jungle.mailchimp.com

As I had mentioned earlier I need to bone up on email marketing so that I can do it the right and the most effective way as possible. Thus I joined Mail Chimp, List Builder, and a few others site just like them. Mail Chimp is a paid service with over 80,000 users. Between this site and the parent site I figure that I should be able to find useful information.

A side note here: Mail Chimp is being proactive here by acquiring a presence on Ning and thus they are protecting their trademark and business.  I recently discovered that someone acquired Tucson SEO Solutions on Blogspot. This could easily happen to you. It just a little different version of cyber squatting. We are in the process of protecting our business name on hundreds of social media sites.

Now, back to the review. This site currently has about 750 members. I could not determine how many of these actually use their service. Currently, there are only 4 forum posts. Blog posts appear to remain on your profile page unless you click on the blog link on the home page. It takes you to the parent site. This site may have limited potential as it is a corporate venture; yet, there is useful information to be found here.

Market Research Space - http://mrspace.ning.com

This Ning site appears to be based in the UK (United Kingdom) but it has a world wide reach. A quick glance shows members from the U.S., the U.K., Finland, and Australia. The membership is just shy of 1,000. If you have an interest in research then this site might be for you.

I am a very big fan of eye tracking studies and this video, Website Eye Tracking Demo, may help you understand why. The forum area only has three posts but the blog area has over 100 posts. I haven’t spent much time here so I don’t have an opinion one way or the other. I have a feeling that there may be some real gems that cover market research hidden in its pages.

No my friends the 109 Day program has not gotten to me. This is a real blog that covering waste elimination and other health related topics. Not only that it uses Comment Luv and it is very liberal about the use on anchor text in the name field! I will refrain from using any puns to describe this one. All I can say is that I found some useful health tips on the blog.

I actually found myself leaving a comment on a post about sweating.  So you might actually want to take a moment or two to explore the blog as it is not a joke site!

I was struggling to find a good blog to end today’s post when I came upon this blog. I had never been here before so I didn’t know what to expect. As I have mentioned I don’t usually review blogs on my first visit but I’m running out of time and blogs.

The blogs tagline reads “Change Yourself Change Your Wealth.” I though Hmm… this might be interesting then I came across this post “The End My Rope - When Trying Harder Just Isn’t Good Enough.” I felt compelled to read the post. The author, whose name I could not locate was writing about the lack of success. I could have just as easily written this post as could many of you. I appreciated the author honest and candor I fond it very refreshing.

This Ning site is all about chili’s as the name implies. I have been a big chili fan for decades and in the past this site would have been a regular visit for me. However, health issues have eliminated hot and spicy foods from my diet. That doesn’t mean that I can not appreciate the power of the chili. I once grew Habenero’s for a neighbor who ate them raw. This is a feat that 15 years later I still find amazing. When I owned an organic plant nursery in Tucson we specialized in the hottest of hot chilies and grew 15 varieties.

So I have found this site both interesting and informative. The network has about 450 members from a wide assortment of locations. Hot Sauce currently has around 40 or so forum posts that cover a wide variety of topics from recopies to events. It also includes 65 blog posts. The site includes some 600 photos. However, these were a disappointment for me as they featured mostly photos of events and products. I had hoped for more plant and fruit photos.

All in all, it is a really good choice if you are a foodie or a chilihead.

Jobs in Social Media - http://www.jobsinsocialmedia.com

This Ning site focuses on jobs in social media as the name indicates. This site is owned Jim Durbin and I want to give him a big shout out for maintaining a nice spam free network. This is a no nonsense network for those aspiring to become an active social media marketer. A job listing lasts for 45 Days and costs $50.00 that seems a bit privy to me. Never the less, I really like the site. These folks are attempting to make a difference in the social media realm.

The site currently has nearly 750 members. It hosts a mere 21 videos . I would have thought that those seeking jobs would want to post videos highlighting their skills. It also includes about 120 blog posts and 21 forum discussions. I though the author Jim wrote a nice article, What Are Some Ways Different Industries Could Use Social Media? I thought he raised some very good points. Many businesses think social media is not a good fit for them which is often a short sighted view.

If you have and interest in social media this one is worth taking a serious look at. The owner, Jim, seems to understand social media very well.

JV Village - http://jvvillage.ning.com

This Ning site is can best be described by using its tagline that reads “The Village Where Joint Ventures Begin.” The site currently includes about 1,100 members from a variety of backgrounds. I have always been a bit of a serial entrepreneur so I tend to favor many business related sights. I enjoy poring over these sites seeking little nuggets of wisdom from which I can glean useful information. If that kind of thing appeals to you then this site might be for you.

JV Village hosted about 50 or so videos. These videos cover things like How to use Twitter to MLM pitches. The forum includes 64 discussions and there are over 260 blog posts. These range from why did they bother to brilliant and lots in the middle. There is an offer to become an affiliate marketer as well. The hook here is a free website and hosting if you promote certain products. This isn’t for me but it might be an interesting entry point for some who are new to internet marketing.

One of the major tenets of this program was to provide a wide variety of resource for our readers to choose from to better themselves. Today, we have looked at chilis, jobs in social media, and now joint ventures. Hopefully you will find something that will provide some benefit and opportunities. Now, it’s time to review some blogs.

I just discovered this blog literally within the last hour. It is good enough to demand a quick write up. Usually, when I discover a blog I will wait a few weeks and come back to do a review. However, this blog struck a chord with me. I am inclined to be a positive person by nature and I respond well to blogs like this.

Just read and commented on this post, One Lesson Six Million Teachers.” If you need a shot of positive thinking then you will like this blog.

I could not find the name of the author but I found this on the About Us page “Welcome to my blog. This site is dedicated to help you help yourself change your life for the better. I will be posting lots of different links, articles, blogs, thoughts anything and everything that will help you make yourself a better person.” It comes with a nice photo of the author but he never signed the page.

This is the site of a life coach and it includes lots of great information. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Yep, that’s the correct name. When I first was the name I thought OMG another porno site. Well, I was definitely wrong on that! It is what the tagline promises “Money savings tips and frugal living articles.” This one has a little bit of good advice for just about anyone trying a pinch those pennies.

The site also has a very liberal comment policy when it comes to using anchor text in the name field. So please do respect this and leave great and relevant comments. I was pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of topics covered here. They include posts on solar projects to window replacement and even loans.

The only negative is that the blog is for sale and you never know what will happen if it changes hands. The blog also includes Comment Luv.

Home Based Business .com - http://www.homebasedbusiness.com

This site is one of the larger Ning networks with about 6,300 members. It is definitely geared for the home based business and for the entrepreneur. Like any network it is only as good as its members. These members have been very active on the video front with close to a thousand videos on display. Some of these are very good. I like that the site uses a ratings system for its videos. I noticed a bunch of them are from the Donny Deutsch TV show and that’s a good thing!

The blogs posts are very active with over 3,000 posts. The forum area is broken down into 5 areas which cover about 1500 posts. The largest area in the forums is where you can advertise you business, website, or blog for free. Is that cool, or what? I hadn’t taken advantage of this yet, but I will do so now.

I can’t express how important it is for entrepreneurs to use sites like this as resources. It took me less than two minutes to copy and paste my ad. I encourage you to put your businesses fingerprints all over the internet. You need to have what you want to say stored in a document on your computer. That way when the opportunity arises it is a simple copy and paste procedure. My goal here is to have a presence in as many small ponds (websites) as possible that are free.

Any good marketer already knows that on average people see or touches a product 7 times before they will purchase that item. So by the time this program is finished it will have provided 545 opportunities to brand your business. A site like this has already offered me 8 opportunities to get noticed. My photo and video provided 2 ways to get noticed and my profile and posts another 6. So that’s eight places that we have a presence on this site so far.

For us this is the perfect environment to get discovered. I clearly understand that social media is about the slow close and about trust and relationships. It isn’t a good medium for those you need fast sales, yet, people go down this road all day everyday. This is a good resource… Use it wisely!

The IM Network - http://theimnetwork.ning.com

Yes, of course this is another Ning network. There are plenty to choose from. The tagline here reads “Social network for Internet Marketers.” And that works! The site currently has about 1,350 members. I generally can get and idea if the site is active and worth my time by looking at the number of videos it has as well as the number of forum and blog posts.

With that in mind the site has only a mere 7 videos on display and one of those is ours. The site includes only about 40 forum posts and about the same for blog posts. So out of 80 posts 5 of those or 7% are from Tucson SEO. This isn’t uncommon on Ning sites. What often happens is someone has a following on their blog or they are into MLM and they start a site. Members pile up quickly but things rapidly become stale. I am experiencing this with our Tucson Small Business Networking Group site.

So unless something happens on this site it may not be the best opportunity for networking or branding, but you could pick up some links

ISS Social Network - http://ississ.ning.com

This is the third and final Ning Site of the day. I like these Ning sites so much that I started another one today that will focus on DIY link building for the small business owner… More on this later… Now, back to ISS.

This appears to be an up and coming Ning network. Since I joined a few days ago the site has five new members that are real people. What I mean by that is this. There is what appears to be two different individuals who are working the networks promoting web cam porno. I see this behavior on a lot of networks. They have accepted these two which tells me the site is on autopilot. They use the same pictures but different names and email addresses to avoid getting caught.

As usual everything good on the internet gets abused. I see it everyday… Ok, back to ISS again… The site has currently about 350 members and the tagline reads “The “watercooler” hangout for Internet Entrepreneurs.” I like the concept being used here. The site hosts 39 videos. It also includes a combination of 101 blog and forum posts most of which are blog posts.

The site offers premium memberships which include teleconferences services.

Extreme John - http://www.extremejohn.com

This is another one of those blogs that I just discovered (did I say that I do daily research) while searching for Do Follow Blogs. I liked this one so much that I keep going back. Maybe I just like the image in the header. John takes an irreverent view on many subjects. This is a blogger with a “tude” which I find refreshing.

The tagline reads “Business Reviews, Rants, Ratings, Current Events, Parties, Limos, Tanning, Pictures.” Yep, that describes the blog well. This is how he describes himself “Hey, I’m Extreme John I post crap on Blogging, Business, Twitter, Rants, MMA, and my life. Check this one out and let me know what you think.

Web Work From Home - http://web-workathome.com

I literally just stumbled across this blog and I’m not referring to using Stumble Upon. This is part of how the author Bill Masson describes the blog “Welcome to Web-Work At Home and thanks for visiting, My aim with this blog is to give out as much information as I can find, to help anybody who wants to get into Internet Marketing.”

The blog is written in a very easy to read style that is not pretentious. He actually has a page set up so that you can submit posts. I thought that was a very clever approach that I have never seen before. I found his latest post Free report Reveals 36 profitable Niches very interesting.

This is yet, another Ning networking site, as I finally wind down this program. This one is geared to Central Florida area. The tagline here “Central Florida’s click” doesn’t do much for me. Its Home page layout is very different from most Ning sites in that it does not include forum or blog posts.

The forum posts can only be found on the forum page only. So adding content to this site is not going to be a useful as most of these networking sites can be. It is always nice to have recent posts appear on the home page. Your blog post stays with your profile page. This is how I have my Tucson Small Business Networking Group site set up.

The site has about 750 members but it only has 14 forum posts. The small number of forum posts is likely due to the fact the posts don’t appear on the home page.

Economist Forum - http://economists.ning.com

That right I have chosen to review a forum dedicated to serious thinkers and about money and economies. It might not be your cup of tea but I find these folks fascinating, especially in these difficult economic times. It is of course another Ning networking site. You can find networking sites on just about anything and everything. You might even find a niche that has not been entered.

I have recommended using Ning to several social agencies that I know of here in Tucson. It is an easy way for a non profit to create on online presence quickly and at no cost. This site only shows forum posts on its home page. It is good to pay attention to this when considering whether to join any network

This network currently has about 1200 members. It also includes 100 forum discussion but only 26 blog posts. It also hosts 14 videos. If your are serious about the worlds financial systems this one might be for you.

Great Article Marketing - http://articlemarketing.ning.com

This is another Ning network where there is the potential to big a big fish in a little pond or you might simply learn a whole bunch. Article marketing can be effective when it is done correctly. I have not found the balance and this is why I joined this network. I am here to learn about something that is not my strength.

The site is still relatively small at about 150 members. I was a bit surprised to see less than 90 blog posts. I guess the members aren’t applying article marketing just yet! Unfortunately, the site doesn’t seem to be very active. So the potential to network here maybe limited, but you should be able to pick up some links.

WP Blog Host - http://wpbloghost.com

That’s right this blog/site offers WP blog hosting and comes with excellent tutorials. I read about the one on Blogging without a Blog . This is the most excellent blog by Barbara Swafford. She wrote about this blog owned by a gentleman by the name of John Hoff. He offers an all in one package for bloggers who want to use WordPress, not only that but the packages are very affordable.

Now, I have visited dozens of WordPress tutorial sites before but this one was different, at least to me. When I landed on the site I was struck by the feeling that I belonged here. An hour and a half passed before I was to finally leave and move onto other things.

There are buckets of great resources and tutorials available here like “How To Upgrade WordPress.” I for one am not a coder and I have others make most of the changes on my blog. So I got excited by all the great information and tools available here.

WordPress is based on open source technology which makes it much easier for hackers to exploit. So when I noticed that John offers a security program that is only $49.95. I contacted him immediately.

I have been saying all throughout this program if you don’t have a blog you should and John would be a good choice from what I have seen.

Thinking in WordPress - http://www.thinkinginwordpress.com

This is another WordPress centric blog. This one also offers tutorials as well. This blog seems to be geared towards the WordPress owner who is a serious coder. It deals a whole bunch with WordPress MU and Buddy Press. WPMU offers the ability to offers multiple blogs in one instillation of WordPress. BuddyPress adds forum functionality, or that my understanding.

This blog isn’t about being cute it is all about being a useful resource and it does this very well. This is how the author describes himself “My name sounds like b r a j e s h.I am 20 and some years young guy from New Delhi,capital of India. I started blogging back in 2006 with Google’s Blogspot (my first blog was pretty private though, sorry I can’t tell you about those college stories :)),but later converted to wordpress because of the control and flexibility it provides.” That works for me. Bloggers didn’t meet his needs so he moved onto WP and shares his wisdom with us. As I like to say, is that cool, or what?

This is another of the smaller Ning Networks as it has a little over 300 members. I like the tagline they use. It reads “Because Internet Marketing Is More Than Just Great Design.” That is one of the most accurate statement that I have ever read online lately.

The site is a good place to start for those wanting to get a handle on Internet and social media marketing. As I like to point out social media marketing isn’t about making a fast buck, however, there is a lot to  consider.  Social media is about being friends or friendly while using social networking sites. This site offers a great opportunity to be a big fish in a small pond.

299 Steps currently only has 7 videos on its network and one of those is a customer recommendation of our services. That video would likely get lost on YouTube and sites like that. Also the only ones likely to view it are our competition. The site currently includes 48 blog and 75 forum posts. There are no differences on Ning sites between blog and forum posts. The difference is in how I site chooses to display these.

As always we would like to ask when visiting any of these sites or blogs mentioned in this program we ask you to add value to these sites in exchange for branding opportunities, as well as networking and link building.

Ad Grabber - http://www.adgabber.com

This is another successful Ning site that is much bigger than most at over 7,600 members. The people involved in advertising generally are quick to see the value of such networks. This site offers the opportunity to network with professionals that have both online and offline experience. Gleaning wisdom from the leaders will only enhance your marketing skills.

The forum area includes over 750 discussions. The blog area has close to 1300 posts on a wide variety of topics. Since this network focuses on advertising I saw not surprised to see a whopping 3,300 videos some of which are excellent others can be best described as cheesy. The site also includes 5,500 photos. These seem to be mostly pics of attractive woman and store fronts.

If you ever wanted to join a networking site centered on advertising then Ad Grabber would be an excellent choice. There is another great reason why I like this site. If you searched for Tucson SEO in Google you would find that this site is on the first page of the Google search results. That’s right the site has a PR of 5 and it is very active. Google indexed my profiles and posts and thus the site is currently listed on the first page!

The real beauty of these social media sites is that your profile, videos and posts may end up on the first page of the Google results. Currently three Ning sites are listed for the search Tucson SEO. The significance of this is that this denies three positions in the search results to my competition. Those rivals that would be in position 8, 9, and 10 have been pushed to the second page of results. At one time I used this technique to control 9 out of the 10 positions on the first page for Tucson SEO.  Since then others have entered the competition for this keyword phrase I can control only 5 positions.

What I have just described should be a wake up call for many of you internet marketers out there. Almost no one goes beyond the first page of results. This if you can push your competitors to the second page they become irrelevant. You can take this piece of advice to the bank, it’s that good! What are you waiting for?

Big Organic Network - http://bigorganicnetwork.ning.com

This is another of what I would consider a moderate sized Ning network. It includes over 1,600 members. There are over 425 videos on display. Some of these videos appeared to be very strange to me. However, I noticed a 12 part video series by Jean-Yves Landry that has some potential. The titles indicate that he is offering basic SEO, link building, and marketing training. I watched the video on Linkbait and found that it provides good solid advice and it was well produced. I’ve seen paid programs that were not nearly as effective.

The site also includes nearly 900 blog posts and about 800 forum posts. For its membership size I would consider this to be an active site. This site is packed full of good stuff and it isn’t shy about linking to other well established SEO sites. I also very much appreciate its tagline ‘Talent, Self Help, Business, Internet Marketing and Organic Products.” It also provides links to other sites that are organic in nature as in gardening.

You can count me as a fan of this sites. There is a whole lot of green going on here!

A Walk In My Shoes - http://awalkinmyshoes.com/blog

Again I just discovered this blog. It’s true… I spent many hours everyday scouring the Internet for great blogs to share with our readers. I like the tagline used here. It reads “Confessions Of A Young Entrepreneur.” This is how the author describes herself “A Poetic Summary: A pair of sexy black suede pumps walk pass you as the heels click-clack against the paved concrete. Their freckled faced owner glances, cheeks peaking in delight, and shines a friendly gapped smile your way. Extending her hand she can’t help but say… Hi, my name is Melody, thanks for visiting my blog.” Melody expresses a lot of wisdom on her blog that is very nice indeed. The blog covers the basics of marketing but from a very personal perspective. The blog also uses Comment Luv.

Yes, This is another great Ning Network site that I am reviewing today. The Social Orange Network offers another opportunity for branding, networking, and for link building.

On a more serious note the site is open so that means all of the pages can be crawled by the search engines. Thus any links that you place into your profile page or in posts will be followed and may positively affect your search rankings. Now, having said that, I must encourage you to focus on networking and not just acquiring links. Your job is to add value while using this sites to your best advantage.

The site has about 500 members currently. It has about 36 videos, 40 or so blog posts, and 20 or so forum posts. I really like the tagline here “Where Small Business Learns & Connects.”  I especially enjoyed the post “The Recession-Free Zone at Social Orange.”

Twitternet Marketing - http://twitternetmarketing.ning.com

If you are wondering how to effectively use Twitter then this Ning site might just be for you. I am not personally enamored with Twitter as a marketing tool. However I recently read an article that claims Dell Computers has made 3 Million from Twitter since 2007. Like any marketing approach it will work for some businesses and not so much for others.

The site has about 1700 members. It includes over 150 videos such as “Twitter in plain English” or you might want to try “E-Mail Marketing Made easy.” It also includes 672 blog posts that cover a lot more than just Twitter. It also might made a good decision not to have both blog and forum posts. They serve the same function and can be confusing to some.

The network is open so it provides a great opportunity for link building. However, as I have pointed out the major tenant of this program is give to get. So when using these networks please remember to add value to these sites. You just might drive traffic to your website this way and maybe acquire some new business in the process.

Net Evolution - http://www.netevolution.co.uk/blog/

This blog covers tech gadgets, blogging, and some SEO stuff. It’s tagline reads “Freediscounts and tips.”  All that I could uncover about the author is that his name is Brad.

The blog includes 18 categories, however, I could not find when the blog began. If you are into code and HTML related topics then this one might be a good choice for you.

DIY Solar Power - http://findportablesolarpower.com/diysolarpower

Since this blog hails from sunny Tucson, Arizona and I am a green kinda guy, this blog is right up my alley. It is also part of a large solar products site. That gives the owners more incentive to produce a nice blog. It is a bit lacking when it comes to the number of posts, but the posts are well written and informative.

If you ever had an interest in a Do It Yourself solar project then this site is an excellent choice for you. The blog also includes comment Luv.

Affiliate Internet Business Online - http://www.affiliateinternetbusinessonline.com

Now, I want to be right upfront here I am no big fan of affiliate marketing. I don’t like going to one site just to be pointed to somewhere else for what I am looking  to obtain. Having said that there really isn’t anything wrong with making some money this way. This blog fills a vital role for this particular group. I can appreciate that the blog is very well written and executed.

The blog includes Comment Luv. It is also followed by several well known bloggers and that’s always a good thing.

As I have stated previously I will be closing out this program by featuring Ning networking sites. I went through the list of networks that I joined and I discovered that only 40% of the networks are open the search engines beyond the home page. So I will be only featuring these open sites for the remainder of the program.

This is why it is so important that you consider joining open sites. Every link on Ning sites is Do Follow but only if those pages are accessible to the search engines. You can tell if a Ning site is open to the search engines by clicking off the home page. If you are directed to the sign in/up page then the network is closed. So any link on these sites beyond the home page will not benefit your sites search rankings.

That doesn’t mean these sites are not useful to you. They may be excellent for branding and networking but will have no value for link building purposes. The whole idea of this program is to optimize your link building efforts by focusing on branding end networking while acquiring links.

Yaddawhat looks to be a somewhat active site. It includes a bunch of videos that is if you consider 473 videos a bunch. The site currently has over 1350 members. It also has 84 forum topics displayed. It also includes almost 800 blog topics. I wrote a post, Social Media Works… Is It Working For You? and posted it here. I was a bit surprised by the variety of material posted to the site. The topic cover acquiring government contracts to building a WordPress website just to name a few.

If you have a blog with an RSS feed you can pick up 20 links right off the bat by setting you RSS feed. You can also add links into your text box. So these sites can be a link bonanza. So you defiantly don’t want to abuse this privilege. Please remember that it is your responsibility to give back to these sites that have allowed you to become a member.

Another huge advantage is that the site has a really good handle on spam.

The Recruiting Blog - http://recruitingblogs.ning.com

This is another Ning site that is operated by a dude that goes by the name slouch. However, this is no slouch of a networking site with over 17,000 members. It seemed to be handling spammers very well. I have not had my wall filled up with marketing pitches or friends requests from people that I have never heard from.

If you are new to social media I have some advice for you. You should avoid friend’s requests from strangers. That my sounds strange but please hear me out. Why would you want to be a friend with someone who has never even bothered to say hell-o on your profiles wall? The only reason that they want you as a friend is so that they can market to you. If you want more spam then be their friends.

Now, back to the Recruiters Blog. There just are not that many Ning sites with membership that exceeds 5,000. So at over 17,000 members you can bet that is one of the better networks. The site hosts about 700 videos from Bill Radin - Turning Off the Selling Switch to Fleetwood Mac performances of Landslide. Some of these are brilliant, some not so much, and some are just entertaining.

Keep in mind that is site is about recruiting and not MLM recruiting. The members here are mostly professional in the recruiting industry. The site is extremely active with almost 3900 forum posts and just over 6,000 blog posts.

As an open network your Do Follow links are very useful but don’t just join thee sites for the links that would be a very short sighted approach.

Aquatic Magic - http://www.aquariumplantsandsupplies.com/blog

As you might imagine this blog has do to with things related to water like aquatic plants, fish, and related supplies. Now, I have had fish previously as a learning tool for children but I am not a fish person. So this is not a blog that I would normally visit.

However, upon visiting the blog I found that it was very well written and informative. I very much liked this post “What Are Good Reasons For Keeping Fish.” It makes some good some very good points about having fish, as in they are very low maintenance. However, by my very nature I am a workaholic so pets and fish are more of a distraction than I am willing to deal with.

If you like fish this is a nice resource for you, If not move on now. It just isn’t worth it to leave comments on blogs that you are not really interested in. It will show up in your comments and just isn’t worth it. The blog is over a year old so it has a fair amount of information available.

Green Goings - http://greenstoreandmore.com/greengoings

If you are new to this program you likely don’t know that I am a big fan of all things green. I was green before green was cool. So I am very pleased to recommend another green blog. The blog is part of a larger site which generally indicates that the blog will be of a higher quality as the businesses reputation is at stake.

The blog has only been around since October 2008 but already has about 100 posts. The categories include such things as Green Things and Energy Savings. I found that it highlighted some really cool stuff. If you are green you will like this one. This blog also uses Comment Luv.

I need discipline - http://ineeddiscipline.com

This is the blog of Dean Saliba. I am not sure what is behind the blogs name but it is a nice blog that covers blogging and marketing very nicely. The blog has been around since November 2007 and is full of good posts.

What I found refreshing was this post “May 2009 Blog Income Report.” Not many bloggers will admit the reality that they don’t make much money at blogging. Dean reports that he made a whopping $101.04 last month. This should serve as a reality check for those aspiring to make money blogging. I really enjoyed his articles on cheap advertising.

My Private Classroom really isn’t all that private. It is another Ning Network site that I am of member of. I will be closing out this program by featuring at least two of them a day. If you are new to this blog I will get you up to speed on these Ning sites. Ning offers a social media platform that has over 200,000 active sites using the service. Ning offers a very inexpensive (as in free) website option for a wide variety of business and social groups.

The My Private Classroom offers a wide variety of free training videos on internet marketing topics that are very useful. To access the material you need only apply to become a member. Once approved you will want to set up your profile page much like you would on Facebook. Then start checking out what the site has to offer.

Some of the videos that caught my eye where “The power of video marketing” and one titled “Less is more.” There are some really great discussions going on in the Forum area as well. This site is a bit unusual as blog and forum posts do not appear on the sites home page.

This site promotes videos big time. Remember if you have a blog that you can pull up to 20 permalinks into your profile page. While many of these sites will not provide the link building boost in the SERP’s they do offer traffic and networking potential. Since the site is open to the search engines that RSS feed is now extremely valuable.

The network has about 2900 members. It  is an open network that only requires you to become a member to leave comments. The site also actively combats spam… Yea!

Startupnet - http://startupnet.ning.com

This is another Ning site, but this one offers a unique opportunity that many do not. This site is opened up to the public and the search engines. You will need to become a member to leave comments, but the material is available to the search engines. This is a huge advantage from a link building perspective. That means that all links in your profile, as well as your blog and forum posts are subject to being crawled by the search engines.

Since the site allows you to add your RSS feed to your profile you could gain 20 links to your blog that will be crawled by the search engines. Having an RSS feed is a huge advantage to you if you have a blog. Its one think to say comes visit my blog. It’s much more effective if you can provide a link and an excerpt about each post. This is huge and those links are Do Follow.

This network has about 2100 members.

I often say that I like the blogs tagline line. They often describe the blog better than I ever will. The tagline here reads “Ideas for the smallest businesses on the smallest budgets.” This bit is from the About Us page “This site is for the 20 million American business owners running the smallest shops on the smallest budgets. Most of us don’t last three years but we’re all doing our best to get something started and keep it profitable.”

Now, that statement is something that I can easily support. This blog is written for the small business owner as well. There just seems to be something rewarding about being a small business advocate. It blogs attempts to make all this internet stuff easily understandable for the uninformed.

I found this post, Twitter, WordPress, and Other Centers of The Universe a very interesting read. It is full of lots of useful information. The blog also uses Comment Luv.

For those of you would have been with this program a while this next statement is something that you have heard over and over. This is a blog that I only recently discovered, which is true. When I came across this blog I really liked the name. I hoped the blog would match the greatness that I had applied to the name. I was not disappointed.

So I was saddened to read the following “On behalf of Salwa, I am writing to inform all the blog readers of blogriffic.com that Salwa is experiencing some personal health problems and the blog maybe out of the action for a few more days.  While we await the return of Salwa.”

Salwa is the blogs owner. This is a very well written Internet Marketing blog worthy of our time. What I am asking my readers to do is to visit and leave some comments to encourage this author back to better health. The blog also uses Comment Luv.

As I like to point out, this tagline rocks “Internet Marketers’ Newsletter & Blog - doing our best and linking to the rest. I think that does a most excellent job of describing this blog. It is also jammed packed full of great material about blogging and Internet Marketing in general.

This excerpt was taken from the About Us page ” We are mostly me - Brian Hawkins. The Extreme Ezine is my baby. Without getting all gushy, I have a lot of pride in this publication and I even feel close to my subscribers.” I can very much relate to that statement when I consider this blog and my readers.”

You know that a blog is good when the articles have a bunch of comments. This one has lots of posts that exceed 20 comments. The blog also uses Comment and Keyword Luv.

A note before I get started: I was going to review a few more of what I consider to be some of the better Ning sites. However, the network is down for maintenance today.

Here are today’s sites:

TSBNG – http://tucsonsmallbusinessnetworkinggroup.com

This one is my own site and it is limited to only businesses located in Tucson, thus the name, Tucson Small Business Networking Group. It is a Ning site that I was able to put together in about 12 hours. It would have taken much less time if I had already written the content prior to beginning work on the site.

The site costs me a grand total of $5.00 a month. This small fee allows me to use my own domain name rather than using the Ning default name. If you don’t use your own domain name the website is absolutely free. You have to accept a few links to Ning and AdSense but that it.

These sites are very basic in their look and feel. However, you can add your own CSS if you have that skills set. The Ning platform has some quirks that I have alluded to previously. The Forum and Blog features do basically the same thing. On this site the blog posts stay on the profile page. Forum posts are shared on the sites home page.

We are attempting to bring together both for profit and non profit companies on this site. The site just completed it first 30 days. In that month we have acquired 26 new members through a variety of sources which have mostly been from online. Google Analytics showed that the site has received a surprising 516 visitors and it has a bounce rate of 31%. The average time on site is about six minutes. All of which were a pleasant surprise for me.

I have turned down about the same amount of members as I have approved. Most of those were from outside of Tucson or they represented MLM companies which are not allowed here. Yesterday I spent the good part of my afternoon at a Volunteer expo. I was there to offer our site as a volunteer referral source. I spoke with over 100 organization so it should be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Ning allows you to have 14 navigation buttons in the main navigation menu. Each of these may have additional pages that appear in a drop down. The site includes pages to list volunteer or barter opportunities. Ning offers a classified feature using a product from a company called Live Wire. I will be adding it soon as a better way to handle the classifieds soon. The sites include about 160 applications as well as many more using OpenID.

The site currently has around a dozen videos that explain how social media works. It also includes multiple social media tutorials. The Ning platform offers a great opportunity for organizations to provide a non cost website solution for groups and organizations. I would definitely recommend considering a Ning network site.

Monkey Profit - http://blog.monkeyprofit.com

By now you are likely to know that I often write about blogs that I recently come across and this blog is a recent discovery. The tagline reads “So easy a monkey can do it.” While I don’t know if I agree with that statement it is never the less a catchy phrase that works well with the blogs header.

While I think the monkey is a bit creepy the blog isn’t. It is packed with lots of useful information from the blogs author, Jacques Groenewald. This excerpt was pulled from his About Us page. “I have done business consulting and profit maximization for companies since 2007 and have been involved with internet marketing since 2005. I have a degree in business (Bcom Economics) and have completed a series of courses in computers, business and communication.”

I read a really useful post about Twitter, “Twitter tips, lingo and words you might not understand!” This is a very extensive article that explains a whole bunch about Twitter and Twitter lingo. The author put a lot of effort into this post so let’s give him some kudos’ in the comments. The blog also uses Comment Luv.

This is a relatively new blog that launched last month (May 2009.) It is a basic website marketing blog, but the writer is putting up some great content that is full of useful information. The blog is very generic in appearance, as if it might be the author’s first blog. Initially I was going to leave the blog as it looked unappealing at first glance. However, something caught my eye and I stayed around and I am here to tell you about it.

In his About Us description this is how he describes himself. “kbeus21, I am a college student, webmaster, and writer. I have fell in love with the internet over the past couple of years and now enjoy sharing what I have learned with other people. Recently I have been discovering how to make money online so I decided to create a website and blog so people could see what I have found. Anyway I hope you enjoy the blog.” I description works for me!

This is the blog of the artist, Chandra Micheal’s. The artwork and her photo are all very striking images. I spent a lot of time on this site as she does really cool stuff IMO. This is taken from her About Us page. “In less than three years, the portfolio of Sugarluxe artwork has been adapted and distributed across the globe. You can now find Michael’ ssignature style set against the backdrop of technology gadgets, gift items, home decor and fashion accessories sold in over 1000+ specialty stores around the world.”

This is a very serious businesswoman, blogger and artist. I was very surprised by the quality of the artwork featured here. This one was a special treat to review. You might just end up purchasing some of her works. Please let me know what you think of this one. There lots of very clever marketing going on here.

Saving Cents With Sense - http://www.savingcentswithsense.net

Here we go again, this is a blog that I only recently discovered while searching for blogs that have Comment Luv. This is one of those save money on shopping blogs. I generally avoid these sites. They never seem to feature things that I could use. However, today I discovered a post about Target, Another Target Deal: FREE Softsoap Ensembles. We are running low on this product and I am going to Target tomorrow. So how cool and useful is that!

This is how the author describes herself. “I’m Melissa, the mom behind Saving Cents with Sense , a site dedicated to helping families find the best deals, store savings, and more. As a mom of two young boys, I know the importance of watching a family budget. I’m an Arizona native, although many of my postings can be beneficial to those in all areas of the country.” In her photo she wears a huge smile that radiates warmth, gentleness, and kindness.
