This is another of the 200,000 active membership networking sites in the Ning network. I decided to review this one based on a response by one of my readers. I am still a fairly recent member of his network. What I have not experienced is a bunch of spam. In fact I have not been spam welcomed or received spam friends requests. That is reason enough to recommend and review this networking site.
WOM for those in the know stands for the best advertising available today which is Word of Mouth. In this case its social word of mouth marketing that is going on here. Like all of these Ning site it has many of the usual social site features. However, this site lacks groups and doesn’t allow photos.
The nice thing is the great and useful information that is being shared by its members. Like most Ning sites you can add various applications and an RSS feed. That feed allows you to link up to 20 of your blog posts.

The tagline here reads “Real Training for Real People.” I like that, and I like that a lot. At the top of the home page asks you to watch a video entitled “Feel like a total loser on the Internet.” Which I did. The video explains that the site offers Social Media Training, Internet Training, and Leadership Training. That definitely caught my eye and I joined.
Again this site seems to have the spam under control which is a very nice positive for the site. It is jammed full of tutorials, resources, and members who are willing to share. I can’t tell you how refreshing that I find this approach. This sites is right up with my Scratch My Back Marketing. The approach here is lets learn and benefit together. It includes all the social media site goodies which include that most valuable RSS feed.
Think about the importance of that RSS feed. When someone visits your profile they are able to see, at a glance, a nice body of your work. That is a huge benefit when networking.
Great Wild Outdoors - http://www.greatwildoutdoors.com/
This one is all about the great outdoors. It tells you so in the tagline “From Camping to Kayaking, Hunting to Hiking.” Having grown up in rural mountainous western Pennsylvania I know a thing or two about this subject.. This is how it describes itself “This web site features tips and tricks on things such as camping, hunting, outdoors tips, and more.”
It appears that the blogs gets updated about once a week or so. One of the more popular posts discussed the snapping turtle. And from experience, I know that these are powerful little critters that should not be messed with. The author is Justin but that’s all I could find about him is his name.

This blog is obviously about writing and blogging. Today when I visited I discovered this post 50 Blogs On Freelance Writing You Must Read. Many of these blogs I have visited, commented on, reviewed, and learned from. But like any list of sites it always has a bunch of new sites to me that are just begging to be explored. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that most of these blogs were new to me. I was off on a blog treasure hunt when I remembered that I was reviewing the blog.
So after I complete the task at hand here I will pour over this list excitedly. It is like Christmas to me. I have visited so a many lists over the past two years its crazy. Then to find such a large number of blogs that are new to me is like opening presents. Then when I discover really good one I add them to this program. As it is, I only recently discovered this blog. If you are a blogger then this one is worth exploring.

This blog is kinda like having multiple blogs one the way it is set up is a bit unusual. The blog is loaded with lot of technical stuff, stuff about blogging and Internet marketing. Again I am reviewing a bunch of blogs that I only recently discovered. It also includes blogging about India.
This is a blog to visit when you are not in a hurry and if you are bookmark it for later review. The blog gives an advantage to other bloggers as it uses the Comment Luv plugin. So website owner when are you going to add a blog and finally grow your traffic and backlinks?

A note before starting today:
As my regular readers know I recently got banned from a local networking site. So I started my own site. This effort was been a major distraction that has been taking my time away from the blog. I also have launched a major networking push on Ning networking sites.
In two weeks I have joined around 100 networks and made two posts on each, added a photo of our header, and loaded a customer testimonial video. This took several days of doing almost nothing else.
Since I am in a competitive market (SEO) it really is a matter of you snooze you loose. Yesterday, I made two posts and saw movement in every keyword phrase that we were not already ranking number one for. Is that cool or what!
Since I have found some many great Ning networks I am going to close out this program by featuring Ning sites along with a few blogs.
Note: The 109 Day Link Building Program is scheduled to be removed from this site sometime this summer. It will likely become part of a membership site.
Here are today’s sites:
Networkers Unlimited - http://www.nuworldwide.com
This is one of the many Ning sites that I recently have joined. Like all social media sites you can have friends and join groups. This one allows you to start discussions (forum) or make a blog post. These two functions are essentially the same things. However, this site does not allow videos or photos.
The site has a little over 7,000 members and 400 or so groups. I just noticed that it has a group in Phoenix which I plan on joining since it is a relatively close 120 miles away. As I always like to remind folks you get out what you put into these social networks. I am reviewing this site because I like the fact that I have not received a bunch of spammy welcomes and friends requests from people who have never said hell-o.
As I have mentioned before these sites, or most of them allow you to add your RSS feed. So you can set it to load your last 20 posts from your blog. All Ning sites that allow links are Do Follow. I am still trying to find out how much of these sites are crawled. These sites are worth exploring for their networking potential.
The Website Owners Zone - http://wozone.ning.com
Again this is another Ning Networking site. It is specific to website owners which is a little odd because everyone, or just about everyone on these networks has a site. You can do the friends and groups things here. This site does not exclude videos or photos so if ya got em share em.
I did run into a small amount of spammy welcomes on this site. A spammy welcome is when some one takes one line to welcome you. Then the other 50 lines to make a sales pitch for some must have product. Usually, these are marketing program or MLM opportunities. The nice thing about Ning sites is that you can make you wall, your discussions, and blog posts moderated. I really like that.
When I receive these post comments this is what occurs… Spam, Bam (delete), and gone. Asking people not to spam you is futile as they will do it anyways. I have become very adept at deleting.
Business Is Personal - http://www.rescuemarketing.com/blog
The tagline here does a very good job of describing this blog “Strategic, common sense marketing, operations and tech advice that will strengthen your business - today!” What I believe makes this blog interesting is the author. I recommend that you read Mark’s About Us page while visiting the blog. It is a very interesting read.
The blog is about marketing and it is written about someone with decades of marketing experience that predates the internet as we know it. These writers rely on a depth of experience that is often missing from those who learned marketing online. You can also tell how good a blog might be by noting the blogs that the author reads. He refers to them as business resources and they are all top notch blogs.
The site also uses Comment Luv. So let’s show some love and leave some great comments.

I just discovered this blog yesterday and I thought I would give it a review. As you might imagine it focuses on website design issues like CSS. If you build sites or just want to learn more about the process this blog would be a good resource.This is how the blog describes itself. “Divito Design is your source for quality articles, resources and tutorials for the web designer. From CSS and HTML to WordPress, SEO and Typography, we are here to provide you with everything you need.” The blog also uses the Comment Luv plugin. I like blogs like this as they always have some little nugget of wisdom that I need.

I recently discovered a bunch of blogs that I was not aware of previously and this tech related blog is one of them. The tagline reads “asp.net code and more.” This one may be more technical than most might prefer. However, I just read a great post, Just read a great article on DoshDosh about giving before you get. Both articles talk about what I call Scratch My Back Marketing. You must give to get!
This is how the blogs owner describes himself “I’m a 30 year old browser based software developer who has just started to research the various ways to make money online. My current interests are software development, online marketing, social networking and blogging.” The blog also uses Comment Luv.

This is one of the most successful social networking sites that uses the Ning platform. The site has over 57,000 members plus over 1300 groups. This site is one of the best small business networking sites available.
I have been a member for a few weeks. I appreciate that I was not overwhelmed with sales pitches and friendship requests. The site caters to the small business owner. Like most social media sites you can add videos. I added a customer testimonial that is available to all members to view. Because the site is very active I make a point of adding new useful content about once a week.
I haven’t even come close to tapping the potential of this site yet. There is a wealth of useful information to be gleaned here. It has mostly been provided by individuals that know what they are talking about. I highly recommend this site. You have to become a member but its any easy process.
All links on the site are do follow and you can add an RSS feed to your profile page. I have not been able to determine if these links are crawled by the SE’s or not. I do know that some of my posts have shown up in Google Alerts but only a few.
Start-up Space - http://startupspace.ning.com
Again this site is another Ning site that is geared to the small business owner. The site includes about 14,500 members currently. The site bills itself as being for entrepreneurs and small businesses. I have found the site warm and friendly. It is nice not to be overwhelmed by members trying to sell me something.
Like most social sites you can make friends, join groups, and post videos. It appears to have members from all over our blue planet. Which I think is kinda cool although I only do business in the US and Canada. The site includes over 1300 groups covering a very wide variety of topics.
This is another site that I have found to be packed full of useful information. As far as I can tell all links on the site are do follow and you can add an RSS feed to your profile page. I have not been able to determine if these links are crawled by the SE’s or not. I do know that some of my posts have shown up in Google Alerts but only a few.
Dennis Edell - http://www.dennisedell.com
Dennis is a very active Blogger both on and off his blog. I have read his well articulated comments on dozens of blogs this year. This is how his tagline reads “Internet Marketer – Direct Sales Owner – All Around Swell Fella. Welcome To His Mind…Strap In. It’s A Helluva Trip.” They are his words and they sum up his attitude very well.
This is anything but a boring blog. It is packed with great and useful information that I am sure you will find useful. I commented a while back on the post, Would One Million Dollars Change Your Life? So not everything is about Internet Marketing, I really appreciate Dennis not only for the blog but for his sharing on other blogs. You will not be disappointed with this blog. The blog also uses Comment Luv.

The name says it all for this blog. The author, doesn’t reveal her name and she signed her About Us page with Peace, Love, and Cookie and that works for me. This is how she defines herself “I am busy mommy of two great kids, two jobs, and two blogs with one supportive husband. I live in sunny southern California, where you can spend half your day in traffic and pass your time star gazing. I love writing, networking, shopping, playing with my kids, running, and relaxing with my husband.”
As a mid aged dude I am not a fan of what I call Mommy blogs and this one qualifies as a Mommy blog. However, I have found the article to be very well written. The blog focuses more on the Mommy entrepreneur than family life. That’s a big plus for me. The blog also includes Comment Luv.
Digital Media - http://natenead.com
This is the most excellent blog from a man named Nate Nead. Here is the blogs tagline “Digital Signage, SEO, Mobile Marketing, and Business Entrepreneurship all in one place.” Like most great taglines this one describes the blog very well indeed. I have never been disappointed when I have visited this one.
I will not quote anything from his About Us page but I would recommend that you read it. I found his story very interesting indeed. I found this post very enlightening “Google’s Morphing Ranking Algorithm + Power of Generic Domain Names.” The site uses Comment Luv as well!

Do Follow Comment Luv Keyword Luv

Finally, after several long drawn out months we have completed the upgrade to this blog. We have added all of the following plugins Do Follow, Comment and Keyword Luv, and Top Commenter. We have added all of these plugins to make our blog a friendly place to comment.
It is part of what we have been calling “Scratch My Back Marketing.” The idea here is that you scratch our backs with use comments of at least 20 words in length. We then scratch your back with useful Do Follow Anchor Text links. If you are a blog owner with an RSS feed enabled you will get an extra link. If you become a regular commenter you may acquire another link.
As I have written about recently we are willing to trade Page Rank for great comments. The net effect of this process is that we have seen our PR drop from a 4 to a 3 and now to a PR of 2. When we had a static website our PR was 4 and we had 100 inbound links for every out bound link. Now that ratio is more like 10 to 1. This explains the recent down grade in the sites PR.
However, none of this has negatively affected our Search Engine Results. Our SERP’s have actually improved over time. I must note that this blog is monitored and I quickly delete comments that don’t add value. Since we have added Comment Luv our comments have increased 60%. Since we removed the Do Follow Lists useful comment on that post have increased over 500%. Take something away and everybody seems to have an opinion.
For my regular readers I hope to be posting again on a regular basis. The demands of getting a new site up and running and promoting it have been more of a distraction than I had anticipated.
Update: 06/01/2009 - Well, it seems that as soon as I announced that I added Top Commenter plugin my site was hacked. The widget only showed one site and that site was a porn site! So I have deactivated the plugin and we are now attempting to find if this plugin is the problem or not!!!!!!!!

Tucson Small Business Networking Group (Association) Has Been Launched

I am way stoked, thrilled and jumping for joy over the launching of our Ning based social network. I had been very active on another similar business networking association here in Tucson. However, that sites owner banned me from his site. That was Thursday afternoon and by Sunday evening this site was a reality. It was only a matter of time before I launched my own site.
Heck, I was putting in two hours a day on local social networking on a site that I did not own. So now, I am putting in the effort building a network of my own. I get to call the shots here and I like that. One of the advantages for me is that I don’t have a profit motive here. While I do hope to acquire business through referrals, the site is not meant to be a profit center.
I really love what I do and I love sharing what I know. There are so many tremendous opportunities available that I want to share that with other local small business owners. In many way I see myself as a small business advocate. Buying web related services can be a daunting task and fraught with anxiety. It is very easy to make mistakes. I should know I have made my share so that my members don’t have too.
I have purchased the domain Tucson Small Business Networking Group it should hopefully be redirecting traffic to the site soon. I have very high expectations that we will be ranking high for the search Tucson networking groups very soon.
Update: The redirect is in place and working. The normal 301 however would not work Ning required what is know as a Cname to work properly. This was news to me! I must admit that I still learn something new almost everyday in this business.
You can Optimize your pages but it is based on the Page Title matching the post title which is OK. However, with WordPress I can make the Post title and Page different which I do almost every time. Ning also does allow you to choose your page description. While page description does not affect search rankings it does affect click thoughts to your website. Since about 45% of searchers will decide to visit your site based on the description this is very important. Given this is a not for profit site I can live with this.

Do You Have Some Cheese Because I have Some Whine!

Owning a popular and successful website can be a lot of fun. It can also be a lot of work. It can also be a real big hassle. Today, out of the blue I got a feeling that my content was getting ripped off again. So I clicked over to Copyscape which I have written about previously on this blog. Copyscape searches the net for possible duplicate content issues.
I have previously discovered stolen content using this site. I would later file a DMCA take down report on one offending site. Well, today I found that someone had created Tucson SEO Solutions on Blogspot. Someone was using a Google blogging site to rip off my company name and the content of my home page. Google doesn’t much respect trademarks but it does address stolen content or I sure hope so.
Copyscape also located a Tucson based design company was ripping off my content in adds that they were placing on Backpage .com. I called and left Michael of Computerz 101, http://www.computerz101.com and left a message requesting that he stop what he is doing. It’s only a few lines but it includes my signature line. One that I am especially proud of.
The point here is that you, me, and all of us must protect our content and company name at all times. I read a post a while back that suggested that we protect our business names on all the major sites like Twitter, LinkedIn, and other social sites. I thought it was a good idea but not one that I was ready to implement at that time. I never considered that someone would grab my company name and content and put it on Blogger.
It took a bit of work to figure out how to report someone ripping off your content using Blogger. Trying to contact Google about anything can be a daunting task. After about 20 minutes I figured out the process.
I have already begun the process of creating accounts on many of the major social media sites but that only scratches the surface. Protecting ones name online can be almost a full time job even when you are not being attacked. Think about all the social media sites out there that have blogging capabilities. Now, perhaps, you can get a clearer picture of how big the challenge can be.
I checked this persons other blogs and found that other great sites are getting a similar treatment such as SEOdiva and Bruce Clay along with a few dozen other sites.
As for me, I just don’t get it. I am basically a fairly ethical person and that works well for me. I just don’t get what motivates someone to go after someone else that they have never personally known. When someone does these things for thrills they don’t care about the personal and financial damage that they often inflict. Most of us are small business owners just struggling to stay afloat in these difficult times. We are often not prepared for the cost or time involved to keep on top of things.
Intellectually I understand the thrill and satisfaction they must receive but spiritually and personally I can not. While I don’t believe in revenge I can appreciate the motivation behind such actions. It’s the biblical version of “an eye for an eye.” But just screwing with someone because you can is like a foreign language to me. I can’t understand it.
As for the guy that stolen content for his ads, well that say’s two things to me that he’s not a very good writer and maybe our content is just plain good!

The Demise Of The Do Follow Lists

We launched this blog back in May of 2008. As a promotion and as a way to give back to the blogging community we immediately started working on our categorized lists of Do Follow Blogs. We would eventually grow these lists to around 320 blogs by July. By August we had added a Do Follow forums list that grew to 220 sites.
The forums list eventually got us pegged as spammers by a SEO forum owner. The owner of that forum had used some language in a comment that I had deemed inappropriate. I made the mistake of calling him out on this in an email. This person had made several comments previously so I took the time to explain that his comments were appreciated but just not his language.
The guy responded buy calling me out on as forum as a spammer on his forum. Then almost in an instant there was a small group of bloggers bashing me on their blogs and on various forums that I was using. It was an ugly week for me. It made no difference that the post which included the new list talked about adding valuable and not spamming. It was as if I were aiding and abetting the enemy.
In retrospect, I can more clearly understand there position. Even though my intentions were pure I was providing spammers with easy access to Do Follow forums. Many of these visitors ignored my pleas to leave valuable content. They were using my sites information to spam these forums and blogs. Of course, not everyone was a spammer but enough were to create problems.
What amazed me most about these differences in opinions was that many of these attacks were personal. One forum moderator even published some of our whois information and called the owner out by name. Not only was that wrong it is dangerous behavior and the person whose named was mentioned is not the person who authors the blog. I tried to be reasonable with these people to no avail. I just choose to ignore them and things eventually quieted down. However, that forum thread bashing us still sends about 35 visitors a month here. The bounce rate for this traffic is 100%.
Despite some bumps along the way we took a lot of pride in updating and maintaining our lists. They were a superior product compared to the mish mash of list that where available at the time. Soon it seemed like these lists were everywhere, but most of them were not of much help because they were not maintained and were full of no follow blogs.
Our lists were mentioned in over 50 blogs and forums and they generated up to 35% of our over all website traffic. However, only a very small fraction of these visitors ever left a comment that wasn’t spam. These visitors used the lists often to spread comment spam. No matter how often we pleaded to leave useful comments it just wasn’t happening.
By April of 2009 the blog list had shrunk to less than 90. Most of these blogs switched back to No Follow. Now, that I removed the lists I am getting lots of comments mostly thanking me for the great list that doesn’t exist. Then recently, this story was used in an article by Aaron Wall of SEObook.
Aaron was making a point about offering things for free and he used my experience as an example. I never thought that I would ever be mentioned on his blog, let alone be an example mentioned in a post. But Aaron’s point is well taken. We both have experienced people ripping off our content for profit and how these people are often the first to complain.
I was amazed to learn how many people rip off SEObooks content on a daily basis. This blog has received 13 trackbacks from blogs that stole his content. These blogs send out their trackbacks to all sources mentioned in the article. They then hope to get a link from me. I have posted many of these trackbacks without a backlink to these sites and include an explanation of what is occurring.
The end result of this activity on this post is that it forces the post higher in the search rankings for Do Follow blogs. Its crazy that by removing the lists I get more useful comments then when the lists were available. It is really was upsetting that we had but so much effort into a project to have mindless selfish people destroy it.
I truly do regret that my lists may have had a negative impact on some blogs. What really pushed me over the edge was when a niche product marketer directed his clients to use my lists. He had the gall to comment that he encourage his clients to leave useful comments. The problem was they were not making comments. Their comment rate was .003%.
The other major problem was the huge amount of people that lied about their blogs status. I wasted a 4 – 24 hour days over the last year visiting blogs to verify requests only find that I had been deceived. Yes, that’s a whole bunch of bogus requests.
What these lists did was shed light onto the unsavory world of unethical link building. When Google forced the issue of buying and selling links in 2007 it only greased the wheels of comment spam and it didn’t need any encouragement. Since Google began playing hardball over the buying and selling of links it has become increasingly more difficult to obtain links. Rather than working longer hours to build links many website owners opted to take the low road called comment spam. There actions hurt us all.
The sad things is that the Do Follow lists were written up on so many blogs, yet, our ethical link building efforts have been mostly ignored by other bloggers, especially those who got reviewed, but then there was that reddened faced man with the gray/white beard. He didn’t like his review and he has been waging a comment war ever since.

Since I wrote this post I have heard from several individuals who c;aim to have purchased the program, Niche Blueprint. They all claim that they were directed to add value through useful content. So I will give them credit for that. The fact is that we did the same and while some listened and did what we asked most did not. They certainly did not feel obligated to leave useful comments here. So I doubt that they then went to other blogs and left useful content.
I freely admit that I did not appreciate fully the importance of comment quality until I became a blog owner. There were a few short comments along the way late at night when I was tired. These were the exception, as I like to share my wisdom, but I myself am not without stain here.
What I decided to do was encourage what I call Scratch My Back Marketing that focuses on leaving a quality comment in exchange for links. That’s what the 109 Day Link Building Program is all about. It emphasizes networking and branding while link building. This program focuses on the long term strategy rather than short term gain.

Trading Page Rank And Link Juice For Quality Blog Comments

It may sound crazy but Tucson SEO as a company is no fan of Page Rank. I think too much is made out of acquiring a high page rank. Our focus has always been on obtaining high search rankings. Because we compete in mostly niche markets such as local SEO and Small business SEO our site benefits more from fresh quality comments than from link juice. Therefore we are willing to give ours away…. for a price that is, and no I am not buying or selling links with this offer.
We are willing, as part of what I call “Scratch My Back Marketing” to exchange Do Follow Anchor Text Links for useful comments. Your comments have to be relevant to the post that you are commenting on and they must be a minimum of 20 words in length to qualify.

Since I just launched a Ning Based site, Tucson Small Business Networking Group I have decided to see how other Ning sites operate. This is the first one that caught my eye since we are a home based business. It made perfect sense to me to start here. Right off the bat I noticed something that I do not have on my site.
When you register it requires you to answer a series of profile questions. It allows you to add up to five websites. I only currently show one and that link is not live. I need to explore how this can be done. I currently only have a handful of members but one of them has two sites and I would like to be able to show them both with live links.
This network is exclusively for Home Based Businesses and you will be booted if you are not one. I applaud this. It looks like an interesting group of members with a wide variety of products and services from around the world! That’s right from around the world! It also provides translation services.
While this site may not be what you are looking for it might serve as encouragement for a future project. Now, every dinner club or garden group can have there own membership site. This site has almost 1200 members. It’s hard to tell how many are active. I think that I have found another home. Like all Ning sites it allows you to add an RSS feed and I set mine to show 20 links!

I will admit right up front that the Ning directory is a site that provides a directory for site that are using the Ning social media platform. Since we just launched a local business networking site I was scouting about for a great source of Ning related information. This site has been a God send for me.
Now, if you don’t know anything about Ning let me provide a bit more reference material than was presented in my earlier Ning review on Day 59. Ning is a social media platform that is similar to Facebook. You can have friends, create groups, add videos and so on. Ning currently has 1 Million sites but only 200,000 are active.
The Ning directory is a resource for those who have Ning Networks. I recently joined and I have found it a wealth of information on how to add features for my network. Ning does provide free tech support via email but it is a bit slow. So if you have a Ning network this one is a very good option. I have answers to my questions shortly after asking them.
Ning networks offer great opportunities for online networking. Because most of these networks are relatively small it is easy to establish yourself if you become active. They also will pull in your RSS feed and place it on your page with up to 20 permalinks available. This is an incredible opportunity to separate yourself from the crowd on these small networks.
I would much rather be active on 5 small networks than to be concentrating on Facebook. There are 10’s of thousands of SEO – Internet Marketers vying for attention on this site. I prefer to stand out in small crowds than to be floating adrift on larger sites. You can acquire a bunch of links as well when you consider the RSS feed which should drive traffic to your site.

This blog is subtitled “Tony writes.” Tony doesn’t say much about himself but his clients seem to have a lot of positive things to say. This is a nice little blog about writing that almost anyone would find useful, and of course it’s well written. I commented on a short post entitled Content Is Not King. The blog also uses the Comment Luv plugin.

I seemed to have been reviewing wordsmiths today. It wasn’t planned this way. The tagline for this blog reads “For Those Interested in the Ways Words Work in the World.” This blog doesn’t have an about page but I did see that I writer is named Isaac. It’s kinda hard to get a feel for the blog as it only shows one post at a time and it has no archives by month.
You will find more posts by clicking on the categories. There are about 60 posts in all on the blog. It seems as if the author is still trying to find his grove. Some of the posts are great and like all bloggers some can be labeled “not so much.” The blog is worth exploring and if you leave a useful comment and you have a blog the Comment Luv plugin will reward you with an extra link.

I help entrepreneurs like you create or improve your web presence so you can use the web to make money doing your thing – in this lifetime!”
Not only do I find the blog very enjoyable but it also provides me that extra benefit of a Comment Luv Permalink. The blog supports her business so you know that the material has to be good, and it is. If your going to spend time on blogs, you will want to spend time where the author is writing about their business. They have more to gain by producing quality.

The site is a bit unusual in that it offers a 30% ad revenue sharing plan. It appears to be linked to AdSense. I didn’t explore this option but you might want to check this out. The site allow you to submit articles, links, and forum posts. It also provides a generic website link. This site offers lots of opportunities for the tech centric individuals and great resources for the rest of us.

I have been holding this one back for quit some time now. I just didn’t want to review a site that focuses on deals. It just didn’t seem like a useful resource for the purposes of the program. Then I visited the site and changed my mind. While it may not be the best site for branding or networking it does provide very useful information across a wide variety of products.
You might want to use the site if your website is offering great deals on your products. It has the potential to drive traffic and sales. That is why I decided that a review is appropriate. It also provides a generic profile link. It seems straight forward and very easy to use. It includes a freebie area and one for store coupons.
I found the offering in the free category varied from the useful (software downloads) to the mundane such as free sample products. The store coupons seemed very promising and it is very extensive. I found it interesting that it still showed Circuit City as a vendor that had coupons available… Opps!! The list of vendors is very extensive from web hosting to retail. This one is worth exploring if only for the money saving potential.

the Philippines. We hope to give you a good mix of relevant and fresh travel news about the Philippine travel industry.” It appears that they are doing to very good job here. The blog doesn’t get many comment so maybe we can help them with this.Wired For Noise - http://wiredfornoise.com
This is the personal blog of Summer. This is how she describes herself “a stay at home mom ranting and rambling about parenting, politics, and the planet. liberal leaning, attachment parenting, tree hugging, and overly opinionated.” The blog deals life issues related to parenting. This is what is often referred to as a Mommy Blog. If you have an interest in parenting insights this one is worth checking out. The latest post deals with cloth diapers. This set into motion a flood of memories, as in “been there… done that!” Huggies was a much better option. The blog also uses Comment luv.

This is another personal blog by Marissa Kessler. The tagline reads “Surviving adulthood for the kid at heart.” This is how she describes herself “I’m in my early 40s but I often feel like a kid trapped in an adult’s body.” For what its worth Marissa if you had not indicated the you are 40ish your photos don’t give it away. The blog is refreshing and an easy read. I can very much relate to her spirit. The blog includes Comment Luv but that link is no follow.

This Is The Sites Second Birthday And The Blogs First

Its is amazing that we have come this far. For the first year of existence we had a static website. I had one page that I used for daily updates, but other than that it was basically a static site. It was hosted through Microsoft. Actually the site never cost me a penny for the first year.
The site was created through Microsoft’s Office Live website. The domain name, the web hosting, and the site building tool were all free for the first year. I was able to create a basic website that was easy to optimize. Although you could not directly manipulate the HTML it did allow you to manage Page Titles, Page Descriptions, and keywords. The site was generic but good enough not to look like a DIY project.
However, it was not attractive enough to draw much attention or links. I did manage to build around a 1,000 links that first year. We were able to become a leader in the Google SERP’s for Tucson SEO and we usually ranked about # 3 for Tucson Search Engine Optimization. However, we struggled to get traction for the other keywords that we targeted. We were never able to get higher than # 33 for the much coveted search “local SEO.”
Then at the beginning of year two we transitioned over to the Content Management System, WordPress. Now, we could really crank up our marketing efforts and provide something worth linking too. Over the blogs first year we added about and additional 12,000 links. However, we now only have about 10,000 back links. We lost about 3,000 links from most of the forums that we had used most frequently. These forums became something else, closed, or drastically altered their signature policy.
The biggest transition is that we have transitioned from a regional SEO player to a national player. We have always ranked extremely well for the following searches Tucson SEO, Tucson Search Engine Optimization, and Internet Marketing Tucson. We currently rank both #1 and #2 for all of these.
Today I checked these keyword phrases in Google and this is what I discovered.

Local SEO Solutions #1 and #2
SEO Solutions #3 and #4
Business SEO Solutions #2 and #3
Small Business SEO Solutions #1 and #2
Geo-targeted SEO #2 and #3

Now, some of the mentioned searches are not very competitive and we like it that way, but they do represent various ways of expressing the services that we offer. Most importantly they produce search traffic.
These ones we are no longer promoting these following keyword phrases but spam comments are keeping these alive. I post the comments and then respond to them. They mostly thank me for lists that no longer exist and I point this out. This produces enough fresh content to keep these pages ranking well. I laugh every time someone thanks me for the list that is no longer there.
Do Follow Blog Lists #1 out of 110 Million results
Do Follow Blogs #4 out of 141 Million results
Do Follow Forums # 1 out of 137 Million results
Over the past year our website traffic has also increased 700 % from year one to year two. That really might be the most amazing statistic of them all. The blog has generated only three negative mentions that I am aware of. We use Google Alerts to monitor this so it is unlikely that we missed the negative posts. That is fairly amazing. Success usually brings out a certain amount of detractors from around the blogosphere.
The number of comments that actually got posted was 1286. I likely deleted 6 times as many. When I started out it was a while before anyone noticed. It wasn’t until the Do Follow List made the first page of Google did we start getting comments. So I am very pleased with a little more than three comments a day.
I am usually a goal oriented person but I didn’t have any written down for the WordPress area. I did have a silent goal to take to take the Do Follow List to the first page of the Google results. I quietly hoped to take 12 other keyword phrases would land onto the first page. That turned out to be a huge challenge. Targeting a link building program around so many keywords is very challenging.
That task was made easier by the fact that my life partner, Geri became an active business partner after I scored a sweet one year management contract. She became the official link builder for our clients and I built links and wrote the blog posts. She also keep the lists current which was on easy task.
The year concluded with a total of 275 posts. This is a monumental feat for me. I am not the best writer in the world but things did improve overtime. I did experience fatigue around the time of the national elections. Lately, the business has picked up which makes blogging more difficult.
This year will be all about establishing goals. I did have one goal from last year that ended up to be unrealistic. I wanted to launch a new website every 6 weeks. The goal was to have a SEO site in the top 100 markets in 5 years. We did launch 5 city specific sites that all rank #1 but generate few leads and no business. Did I say that I am a dreamer.
Now, my goals are a bit more realistic for the coming year. I hope to sell our cleaning services website and our Mountain View SEO site. I plan on launching a local social media site, an SEO site that targets the city of Phoenix. I will eventually complete our Holistic SEO site. I would also like to increase our billable services. Well, that’s our story and I’m sticking to it!

Otherwise the site is a great information resource for tech related topics. I personally like the sites look, feel, and ease of use. You can acquire a generic link to your website and blog in your profile with that in mind I definitely would recommend visiting this popular site.

This is another of those web development – SEO – Internet marketing forums that I like for its ease of use and nice clean design. It has around 60 sub forums to choose from. There is a little bit of everything available for the website owner here.
The forum includes a general discussion area where we you recommend that you start. It also includes some interesting options such as the website review area. It is always a good practice to review a few sites when possible. Then ask for input on your site. You just might get some refreshingly candid opinions about your site. It is really worth doing this as we tend to have blinders about our own site.
Spam is an issue that this forum has taken steps to mitigate. They now require five posts before you can acquire signature links. Usually the comment spammers will not wait that long to acquire links. It appears that the forum will eventually allow you to acquire 3 signature links. The forum still is rather small at 2600 members. That should provide great opportunities for those looking for a forum home. It should be easy to establish yourself in any number of forums on this site.

I really like where this blog is coming from. The tagilne really describes the blog very well. The truth is that change comes from within and wealth doesn’t always refer to material riches.
I read an article today that the writer admits might gross out some people while others will find it useful. The post, Cheaper Than Cheap Tip Of The Week #8 : Don’t Flush The Tiolet makes a lot of sense to me. I let you read this one and come to your own conclusions.

This is another blog that I discovered doing research for the project. Around Day 65 or so I realized that I would not have enough forums to review two a day. So that’s when I decided to switch to offering one forum and three blogs. I wanted to then offer at least two blogs that used the Comment Luv plugin. So in my search for Comment Luv blogs I discovered this blog and a whole bunch of great blogs.
I have found blogs that offer this plugin to be superior to other blogs. So much so that I would say that 85% of these blogs I consider better than the other generic Do Follow blogs that I visit. Those that chose to use Comment Luv tend to be the more serious bloggers.
The tagline reads “Help so good it’s like cheating.” The blog is all about college life and getting into college. This is a must read for students and parents like. It offers great tips and advice. I would use this blog on a regular basis if I was part of the blogs core market. However, I am not. Yet, I found the articles engaging and well written.

This is another great blog that covers WordPress which is something that is very important to our business. The blogs tagline reads “Customizing WordPress just got easier.” If you have visited the blog much your are likely to already know that I am a big WordPress fan. I visit WP blogs on a regular basis and this one is in my rotation.
I just read the post titled, Simple WordPress Forum Plugin - Revisted. It discusses a plugin called Simple Press. It allows you to add a forum to your WP site. This one looks very promising for a project that I plan in the near future. Not only is this a well written and useful blog it also uses Comment Luv.

This is another Tips and Tutorials site that is very straight forward and easy to use. However, the main page doesn’t have an option to register. It requires you to click on the login link. Then you are taken to a page that allows you either to login or register. Although that took me a while to figure out the site is otherwise very easy to use.
This presents a great opportunity for branding and networking if you have something useful to add to the site. There is no profile option to link to your website so this one will require a bit of work. However, if you have a tutorial already on your blog you can simply link to that. The site was real potential for those of you that already have quality content on your blog.

Here is another great web development – SEO – Internet marketing forum that I like. It has nice simple design features. You are not bombarded with flashing gravitars or a whole bunch of ads. The sign up process is very easy. The site offers an introduction forum and we always suggest starting there.
The forum includes a wide variety of forums that cover website basics. I started using the forum back in October of 2008 and I can not recall what the requirement is for obtaining signature links. I believe it is set at 15. I posted my 16 post and didn’t have links. I then added my signature and did my 17 post and was awarded links.
It appears that you may acquire up to three links for the signature, but nowhere did it clearly indicate any restrictions on the number of links. As I have learned it is better to start at with a few links and see what happens than to get banned for breaking the rules, even if those rules are buried somewhere on the site. Your signature links will be matched plus one in the profile area.

I just noticed that I reviewed in back in the beginning but it is really worth another look, especially if you missed it previously.

You Get What You Pay For Try Twisted Pair Techs

As an internet marketer I am online 12-14 hours a day. So when one of my computers stopped connecting with the internet I was in trouble. Like any computer dependent company we had a back-up computer. Then the hard drive on that computer started to go out on me. I could no longer avoid addressing the issue.
Since I am a big fan of barter I figured that I would begin contacting some repair vendors and see if anyone wanted to trade services. I happen to have the card of Alex, of Twisted Pair Techs on my desk. I had briefly spoken with Alex recently at a business mixer help at the Pearl nightclub here in Tucson. I picked up the card and gave him a call. I had already exhausted all my options with my cable provider to no avail.
What I found out was that Alex’s services are on the high end of area service providers in this community. But I was reminded that you often get what you pay for. I have previously tried two different vendors on Craigslist to fix a virus problem on an older computer. I ended up spending more than the price of a new desktop and still never resolved the problem.
I realized that maybe bartering was not the way to go and since Alex didn’t want my services that wasn’t an option. If I lost the hard drive on the back-up computer I would have to rely on a very slow laptop. That computer lacked many of the files and programs that I use on a daily basis. So that option was not a very good one. I likely would have spent a day loading files and programs.
Alex and I talked late Thursday evening and he was here the next afternoon. He stated that he might be running late and would call if that occurred. In fact that’s what happened. He was running late and called ahead to inform me. He pushed back his arrival by 30 minutes and he arrived promptly at the reset time.
The problem took him 30 minutes to resolve. I now have internet access on my fast computer. Essentially Alex’s service fee was cheaper than those Craigslist vendors who wanted $50.00 to show up. I know other there are others who charge even less. For my money and my business it is worth it to pay a premium for services that are done correctly. In the end I will have saved money because the problem was resolved quickly. Not only that but he provided better resources than I was currently using to protect my computer. Alex is a class act!
I highly recommend Twisted Pair Techs.

Does this sound like Digg? Well, it is very much like Digg. Probably, not nearly as difficult to reach the front page as Digg. These sites can sometimes be used to generate large volumes of visitors. If your site has good material it may also develop a whole bunch of backlinks as well.
I am taking the time to promote this program as I routinely do. So I post a blurb about the program. Then I use Google Analytic’s to evaluate the usefulness of the site. This site has a Page Rank of six which means Google really likes the site and is on it constantly.
Here is why this is important. You want Google bots visiting your site as often as possible. Since these bots crawl this site all day long they will quickly find your links and follow it to your website. Then they may crawl your site. If you have made recent changes these will be recorded. Changes to the website will likely improve your website rankings.
This is a must use site that was potentially good ROI of your time on the site. Whatever you do when you are marketing your website it should be measurable. It is easy to spend lots of time on sites that are fun to use but have very little impact on your bottom line.

This is another of your basic web development – SEO – Internet marketing forums. It is one that I like for its nice simple design. It does throw a bunch of banners or Google ads at you. It appears to be establishing itself as it still has a small number of members at around 800 or so.
Since the forum has so few members it would be easy to establish ones self here. There is plenty of opportunities for networking and branding on the site. It offers great link building opportunities as well. You may obtain at least four signature links plus another four plus one in the profile areas.
The forum includes 20 or so sub-forums. It has an introduction forum and as you might already know, we suggest starting here. If you are looking to go off topic it also includes a General area. As always we recommend that you focus on adding value.

Again I think that the blog owner was captured the essence of their blog in the tagline. It reads “Tips and Guidance for e-Commerce and Website Marketing” and that works for me. When I just visited this blog today I read this post, Managing Your Time For Ultimate Effectiveness. I found it challenging and intellectually stimulating.
The author is Dan Patterson and this is part of his background “I first started doing things online back in 1999 when I taught myself HTML and started building websites for other people.” His knowledge is keen. However, since he is very busy he doesn’t blog much these days.

Make Money blogging is a must read blog if you want to make money at blogging. I have found it to be well written and that it contains lot of useful information. Today, I read, How Personalization Can Increase Your Sales.
I like the clever domain name, that reads Easy As 123.
The blogs author is Ian Richards. I really appreciate his straight forward marketing methods and advice. His blog also includes the Comment Luv.

I had seen this site described as a hybrid social news sites which covers all topics. However, that just didn’t seem to hit the mark for me. Actually I was a bit confused by the site at first. It includes a video section, bookmarking, news post submitting. It also allows you to start and join groups.
It is kinda like Digg, but not quit. It has what it calls Searchles TV which allows you to do a mash-up of your favorite shows. I tried watching the video but the feed keep losing audio. I have cable access so I’m not sure what the problem was here. This site has lots of potential for entertainment but I question its effective as a marketing venue. The site offers bookmarking and social bookmarking but I could not discern the difference here.
It does allow for one link in the profile. This site is worth checking out if only because it is a bit different than most similar sites.

This forum is still very new to me. I have only made a few comments on this site. I do very much appreciate its nice clean lines and its small amount of ads. It is another website – SEO – Internet marketing style forum. It includes all of the website basics.
The forum has over 50 sub-forums that cover some topics that are not usually available on similar forums. It has a forum that discusses payment processing. It also includes a forum on content creation. So I definitely would recommend this forum especially if you are a blog owner. Blog owners will get another link from there latest blog post through an RSS feed.
The forum will not allow immediate signature links and I could not find out what that requirement is. It looks like maybe 20. It does allow you to obtain two signature links with an equal amount plus one in the profile areas.

Well, the blogs title and tagline don’t leave much to the imagination. The tagline reads “Reflections on life from a 40something.” It is a personal blog and I usually avoid these as I prefer reading information. Maybe because I am a 50something, I can relate to this blog. This is how the blog owner describes herself, “I’m Cass. I am a full-time mom to eight great children, a Christian and a blogger. I’m also a knitter, a reader and a movie watcher. And a collector of eclectic oddities.”

This is one of those Geek blogs. The tagline even says so “Ramblings of an Urban Geek – Tech Enthusiasts.” Every time that I visit the blog I come away with useful bits of info. This is definitely a useful blog
The author says that he simply loves the internet and blogging and it shows. The blog has been around since 2007 and is updated on a regular basis but just not for the last month. I hope all is well!

This is another one of those blogs that I recently discovered. I like the blog but it starts out with a bright blue background and fades to black. This makes it very difficult for my sight challenged eyes to read. If dark pages don’t bother you then you might enjoy this blog. The tagline reads “Design Inspiration, Portfolio, and SEO Help.”
The blog is running a contest where you might win some cash. The prize is $15.00 or free advertising. I know it’s not much but someone will win and if you don’t visit you will not win. I actually won a prize during this program so anything is possible. The blog also uses The Comment Luv plugin! Funny thing is I qualify by posting this review… Is that cool or what! I was going to review the blog anyways!

Some days are easier than others when it comes to doing these reviews. I had a site named Tagged scheduled for review but it was so frustrating to use that I abandoned the site. It kept throwing up surreys during the registration process and you had to decline the survey 4 times before it threw up another survey. I can’t imagine that many people put up with this.
The second site was Wordsy it is asocial media site for writers. It has stopped taking new material due to spam. You can still access old material. I have been looking forward to this review. I can’t blame the site owner spam gets old quick especially when you are attempting to provide a quality website.
On Another Note: I am unlikely to complete this project on time (April 19th)and I am OK with that. Some things you can not control like computers crashing and a recent week long illness that required minor surgery. Plus on the positive side of things my business has taken off after a period of decline. I am now busier than I have ever been. Helping others does eventually pay off. I firmly believe in what goes around comes around.
I also want to thank those who left great and encouraging comments. I have recently been attacked on another blog and I have moved beyond that. I love what I do and I am at peace with that!

Yep, I am about to review that Yellow Pages. Now, as you have been with me for a while already know, I loathe most directories. However, I am a fan of local business directories. These sites are often used by the search engine to create what are known as citations. These citations are sometimes created when your website appears on another site, especially a site that is in your local area.
These citations are said to affect the local maps that are provided by the search engines. The more of these citations that you can obtain the better it is for obtaining a higher placement in the maps. So today we are considering the old stand by the Yellow pages. The listing is absolutely free so why not. The site claims 125 million searches a month. So by all means do take advantage of this opportunity.
I was amazed when I realized that I did not have a listing. I fixed that in 10 minutes or less. I do expect to get a follow-up call soon, as they should! I have gotten very good at saying that I am not interested! Take your time here and provide as much information as possible. It is after all an ad and its free!

This forum is for those who are in the real estate industry and for those that have an interest in the industry. I wish I had access to this sites statistics. I would be willing to bet that it has seen an increase in traffic with the economy as it is. These folks are now forced to market themselves harder than ever before.
Just because the site focuses on real estate don’t turn away just yet. This forum has a large group of sub-forums that address website issues, SEO, and internet marketing. Since this is a vital part of their marketing this makes a lot of sense. If I had the time I would work this niche in the SEO related forums.

A Special Thanks To Lance

I owe my sanity to our web developer Lance. Lance is a very fine gentleman who was been working with me on various projects for several months. He has been a God send. I can not say enough good things about him. He is also a very busy man.
Lance runs two businesses and will re launching another soon. He just closed on his first house and time is at a premium. Then I called today in a panic. All the links on my website had quit working and I lost the ability to edit them. I freaked out. After I called he worked tirelessly on the project. After what seemed like an eternity he finally discovered that part of the site files had somehow been corrupted. I was afraid that the site had been hacked but thankfully that was not the case.

This should be reason enough to encourage you to be hands on website owners. You never know when links or features are broken if you don’t check your site regularly. Fortunately we are very hands on kinda site owners. I am also fortunate that a regular reader Paul noticed the problems and emailed to ask if everything was all right. Thank you Paul for that. Normally, went a site is broken people just leave without ever mentioning the problem.
Maybe it some good mojo being returned. I often will take the time to inform the website owner that they have a problem, as I would hope that this favor would be returned which it was. I once visited a blog that had a rapidly moving animation next to the comment box. It was a real distraction. I pointed out that this features might be chasing away those who wanted to leave comments. The owner changed that moving character to a still image. He emailed me to thank me for my input.
So I encourage you if you visit a blog or a site that has a broken link or a feature that isn’t working take the time to let the owner know. Not every site owner can be as hands on as we are. You might find that someday the favor is returned to you.
On another note we are seriously considering removing our Do Follow lists. They now have become more trouble than they are worth.
