Wow, this is a way cool idea. I bet you will get lots of inbound links for this effort. You all rock so very much. I really like how you broke everything down by categories. I see lists all the time that are no where near this good. Keep up the work.

  2. india on August 18th, 2008 6:18 am

A very good list. Thanks for share :)

  3. admin on August 18th, 2008 6:51 pm

    India,

Thanks for leaving a comment. We appreciate it.

  4. Dave on August 18th, 2008 11:06 pm

Google has discounted forum links in post about 5 mins after they started to use PageRank. Common sense & logic should dictate that.

PR is NOT as simple as you believe and your suggestion only encourages link spam, web noise, banning and time wasting.

I would have thought you own sites PR and ranking in Google would have proved that to you :)

  5. admin on August 18th, 2008 11:40 pm

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for the comments. I don’t personally give much credence to PR. I prefer to focus on results.

You have made some statements here that are not accurate. I have made no claims about PR other than I don’t give it much credence or pay much attention to it. Again, pointing some one to Do Follow Forums is not an advocacy spamming, something that I deplore.

Do people use these lists to leave comment like “nice blog.’ You bet it happens. I have no control over that. Spam will happen list or no list.

This list is merely linkbait. I have studied forums topics and activities for some time.

I have observed that these lists are hot topics and that is why they are included. There are plenty of people who view things a lot different than you do. We have chosen to provide what people are looking for.

I also would like to mention again that spamming forums is not an acceptable practice and we do not advocate doing so. We simply are providing what many people want.

I have been known to spend hours on forums assisting others when I have down time. So there.

    Thanks again for your input.

[...] Do Follow Forums List: working the forums for traffic (totally legitimate) your links might as well help you in the search engines Share and Enjoy: These icons link to social bookmarking sites where readers can share and discover new web pages. [...]

  7. admin on August 19th, 2008 1:15 pm

    Daily Sphinn,

Thanks for the mention on your blog. It is nice to finally here from a voice of sanity. This post unfortunately has brought out some ugly behavior. I don’t mind in if someone disagrees with me. Heck. I will give them a voice to express their opinions, but what I went through yesterday was un-called for. I will not allow bad taste, bad manners, or vulgar language to be expressed here.

So hearing from the daily Sphinn this morning has made my day.

  8. admin on August 19th, 2008 7:20 pm

    Admin:

For all of you visiting after reading a rant by Doug on some forum your posts will be deleted unless you can articulate your position without sounding like your right and I am wrong and stupid.

If you think is list and or myself are corrupt you are welcome to share those views somewhere else. I am no longer going to post your rants. I have explained myself and my position clearly.

I will reserve this space for those like the Daily Sphinn that write about this list and understand what the purpose of this list is and who understand its value.

It is so sad it see people who can not express an opinion without having to put others down in the process. Since you don’t seem to have the ability or desire to agree to disagree, I’m done with your rants.

I’ve gotta go I have a successful business to run , but thanks you have helped push this page way up in the SERP’s, and for that I say thank you!

We where at Tucson SEO wish you all the best.

  9. g1smd on August 19th, 2008 7:28 pm

There are several forums in your list that are quite likely “to send the boys round” when they find out that you are pretty much telling people to go spam their site. You have been warned.

This obsession with links is killing the web, buried under a monumental tide (deleted)
Wise up, get a clue, then Do The Right Thing.

ADMIN: This is a gentle version of what I have seen over the last 24 hours. How many ways can you say that I am not advocating spam…

This is just linkbait… whether you think that’s a good idea or not… It is what it is?

You can also go on just about any major SEO forum and find a thread running covering Do Follow Forums so its not like I invented this. I merely made readily available information more usable.

  10. admin on August 19th, 2008 7:58 pm

    Hi Connie,

Thanks, for the well thought out and articulate expression of your opinion. I am very open to the expression of opposing opinions. The problem is that some people are down right rude and vulgar.

You might be amazed what I have read and what I have been called because of this post. When this list was part of my other do follow list their was not one comment that was vulgar or rude. Most people who left a comment were grateful.

This would have been mostly a very uneventful post had it not been for a forum owner leaving a vulgar negative comment AND THEN GOING ON FORUMS TO TRASH ME. And that’s that!

  11. admin on August 19th, 2008 8:01 pm

For about the forth or fifth time I am not advocating spamming anyone. All I have done is compiled a list based on readily available information.

    We Do Not Advocate Spamming!

  12. Carroll on August 19th, 2008 9:54 pm

    Hi there!
My first post at this great forum!
    (deleted spam link)
    Have a nice day!
    BB!

    ADMIN: Hi Carrol,

I think perhaps you meant great blog and not forum. Your link was deleted as it has nothing to do with this conversation, but thanks for stopping by and comment. We are always grateful when a cheery person visit and leaves a “Have a nice day.” We really appreciate small acts of kindness. Please do come back and do tell your friends… Have a nice day.

  13. Geri on August 19th, 2008 10:14 pm

Yea, my friend I just got IM that you could use a little support from an old friend or two. Dave gave me a head’s up that the social part of having a blog wasn’t working out so well.

I tried calling put I only got your recording. Wow, Its a little hard to comprehend that people would misunderstand you and threaten you. It seems you were being very fair if not generous.

Dave sent me an email that included some of the nasty stuff that was said. I’ll call later. We are in your corner my friend.

  14. Larry on August 19th, 2008 10:26 pm

    Dude,

Your buddies up here in Phoenix are here to provide you support. I guess no matter how many times you say you don’t advocate spamming and that this is only linkbait some people just don’t listen.

For those reading this that came here to bash my friend… Well, all I got to say is my friend is about the straightest shooter that I have ever known. He also is one of the best SEO that I have ever meet.

This site is on the first page of Google, the last time I checked, 8 times for searches that include the word SEO. You might not like is linkbait, but he is way better at this then any of you ever will be. And I know him personally and he loathes spam. So instead of pitching a ruckus, why don’t you actually read the pages here you might actually learn something.

  15. Gilbert Guy on August 20th, 2008 9:47 am

After reading your post, I don’t see what all the hub bub is about. You’re not telling anybody to spam and you even say leave something with content.

Doug and his followers are the extreme right wing so to speak of the SEO community. If you have ever read some of his other rantings you’ll see what I mean.

I personally don’t see anything wrong with your post even if most SEO types already know about that type of promotion any way.

But like you said, linkbait goes a long way. Just look a the guys who found bigfoot the other day. Their websites got a lot traffic for nothing but a hoax.

  16. admin on August 20th, 2008 12:32 pm

    Gilbert Guy,

Thanks So very much for your sage comment. This was the first time that these radicals types had tried to make my blog a sounding board for their extreme positions. I had seen these rants on forums before.

I had attempted to have a reasonable discussion with the four of them but that quickly went down hill. They wanted to use my blog to further their agenda and since but the blog is about our agenda. Si I deleted most of their comments.

Yet, even after being told they are not wanted here they attempted twice today to post knowing that they would be deleted. I don’t even bother reading them.

About the big foot, those folks also got attention on the TV networks big time.

So thanks again it is nice to hear a sensible voice again.

  17. Louie on August 20th, 2008 11:43 pm

Great valuable resource that you are providing here. From what I can see is your are providing a valid usable list I don’t see what all the fuss is about.

I can’t blame you for censoring or moderating your comments. Your blog is an extension of your website and business. You have to protect your interests. Allowing ranting that go on and on is a waste of valuable time and resources.

Don’t these folks have there own blogs and forums to use. Get a life!

  18. admin on August 20th, 2008 11:48 pm

Thanks for the comments Louie. How’s the weather up north? I would like to move the discussion beyond the distractions of the last few days.

Have you ever gone to the local SEO Meet-up in your neck of the woods, make that desert?

I drove up in April and found that it was well worth the drive. They have a really knowledgeable group leader.

  19. Karina on August 21st, 2008 6:34 pm

This is a very useful tool. You can waste a lot of time trying to locate relevant forums so this is indeed very useful. We wish you the best and I also wanted to say that I like the blog and your website.

  20. Wayne on August 22nd, 2008 4:05 pm

The list is so user friendly. Yea there are lots of list out there that have more web sites listed but they are in no logical order or even do-follow so they are time consuming to use and short results. We need more people like you willing to help out the community.

  21. admin on August 22nd, 2008 7:56 pm

    Hi Wayne,

We appreciate the comment and yes we have put a lot of effort into this.

  22. Kubur on August 23rd, 2008 4:16 pm

Thank you for keeping your list current.I searched other do-follow list and most were so out dated with last posts up to three years ago or totally no longer active. I appreciate all your efforts.

  23. Healthy D on August 28th, 2008 5:14 pm

Great information I have just started to get into using forums it is so helpful the way this list is categorized. All the information I need in one place. Thanks keep up the wonderful work.It is appreciated.

  24. Eveden on September 1st, 2008 7:58 pm

Do all forums except comments? Are there similar standards to how often you have to post before you are recognized as a commenter? Is it best to use an anchor text?

ADMIN: Every forum is a little different in how they operate. If you want to ask question or leave comments most require that you become a member. Some will reward you with the ability to gain links back to your website when you comment but many do not.

It like anything some forums are better than others.

  25. John S. Britsios on September 4th, 2008 1:40 am

I just read your article here and that made me rethink. All our blogs “dofollow”, but our forums http://www.seoworkers.net did not.

I just decided to “dofollow” for our forums too, and I was just wondering if you might would like to add us to your list too.

I am sure we will have spam attacks, but we have the capacity and experience to deal with all that. By the way I would like to thank you for your excellent article your published yesterday about our blog Algojunkie and about our SEO Analysis Tool.

    Keep up the great work.

There are many positive reactions to this list I will be going to some of these forums and hope I will also have this positive feedback. Are there any new guide lines to the future of link building?

Admin: Google has released on it website an SEO starter guide. I strongly recommend go there and have a great starting point.

Great list… You really have put a lot of effort into this. It is sad to see that so many are moving away from the do follow movement over comment spam.
