Website 101 -Does Your Website Sell?

Today I spent a few hours off an on asking and answering SEO related questions. While I have written in the past to be careful when using forums, I feel much differently towards the users and administrators of this forum.

There is generally a positive approach here. It seems to be a good place to ask questions with an expectation of getting was fairly reasonable answer. The genesis of this post was when I read someone asking for an example of good selling on a website.

I referred him to a post that I had previously written on the subject. The article KISS My Website discussed how you should “Keep It Simple Stupid.” It went on to explain that one should use an old fashioned and very basic sales 101 technique. It is called a features and benefits presentation which always concludes with the “call to action.” This means simply to ask for the sale.

Still other websites, such as a service business, have a need, and that is to conclude your visit when you initiate contact by email, or preferably a phone call. These websites are about lead generation or setting appointments. They are no different when it comes to how they should sell themselves. It’s that they have a different conversion.

A good sales presentation is just the beginning. Everything that your website does should be built around and should support the sale presentation. Your goals should be to keep your website user friendly and make sure that your pictures or graphics enhance your content. Images cause eye tracking problems and make it more difficult to concentrate on the content.

I am a Webmaster Forum owner myself, and I always ask myself that question no matter what I am doing to my site. I always make sure that I ask myself what is the purpose of the site and if the site is actually selling.

I am still working on making a presentation to sell people into to coming to my site. As a salesman already, I am trying to find a good pitch for my site. Great Article, it really makes a person think if his or her site is selling.

Thank you for the useful information. I am in the process of building a site and am always looking for fresh ideas to enhance the appeal for my visitors. I agree with the comment on over imaging a site. I like to go to a site and not be distracted from what I was looking for by to many images. The article is going to make me go back and really take a look at my presentation. Thanks again.
