Free Yahoo Directory Listing
Yahoo offered the first reliable and searchable directory for the internet. It helps launch the internet as we know it today. You may also know that Yahoo offers its listing service with no guarantees and it costs $299.00. That’s right you may get in if you have a good site and you may not. That is why Google gives a lot of what to a link from their directory because it was earned. However, I am not willing to spend the amount for one link.
Now, I have expressed that this is a lot of money for just one link on this blog many times. Then today I just discovered while blog commenting that Yahoo is offering a free listing in their directory. The catch is that it is in their Yahoo Canada Directory. I read about it and immediately clicked on the site. The process was straight forward and only took a few minutes to complete.
I have on idea when they will get around to listing our site, or if they will refuse it as it is based in the US. If they are listing US sites then I am confident that we will make the cut as we are listed in the DMOZ and Google directories.
Are you going to grab a listing today?

Thanks for this info. I guess you can call it the Yahoo directory back door secret. I just submitted my site a few minutes ago and i’m waiting to see what’s going to happen. It took me a few months and a few submissions to get listed in Dmoz. Just hope this time it will be much faster..

Wow- this is the great thing about always reading an SEO’s blog. We find the most valuable things don’t we? ( I feel like a kid in a candy shop – LOL )
I also am going to try to get listed and even if I don’t get listed, I have a friend who is Canadian and has a site and she can try to get listed.
Thanks so much for this fantastic tip!
Most SEOs wouldn’t even tell anyone.
All the best,
Eren

Admin: Hi Erin, I always appreciate your great comments. There are a few things that we do that I keep to myself but not many. I really enjoy finding this stuff and sharing it. I stumbled on this on some obscure blog. I only regret that I didn’t remember where I found it to give that author credit. It sure doesn’t hurt to try.
I just checked and you do not need to be a Canadian company! Now, how cool is that!
How interesting that they are giving free listings for Yahoo Canada! My only issue for my own personal business is what I have to factor in with the cost of shipping, so I don’t know if that will work for me.
Admin: Mark, It likely will not produce much if any business as people don’t much use directories any more. It will be a sweet link if it gets approved. I have my doubts since we are not based in Canada, but my site does indicate that we offer services for Canadians.
Canada huh? I guess I never thought of that but it would be a good link though. Before finishing this comment I followed the link and submitted my site. Thank for the information. Now it’s just a waiting game to see what happens.
There are a lot of Canadians who come to San Diego to buy homes. I help Canadian investors buy properties all the time. I think Yahoo should be willing to serve people and companies who serve the Canadian market, even if the people or companies are not located in Canada.

Thanks so much for providing this beneficial information! It appears that it is very important to choose the right category for a link to be approved. It may be instructive to see where similar sites place their links.
Upon examination, Yahoo Canada Directory also offers the opportunity to click on “regions” within categories/subcategories, and a US-based site may choose this route.
Thanks again for your continued SEO guidance and direction!
Admin: Andy, great comment but you need to learn how to use Keyword Luv if you want a link from this blog.
I suppose that I just learned a valuable lesson. It’s so important to read the fine print and follow directions in a precise manner. I’ll try to implement this kernel of wisdom when I submit my site to the Yahoo Canada Directory. :)

Admin: I checked out your site and I registered for the forum. However, you can’t just use your business name when leaving a comment. I will use the comment but you will not get a link
I absolutely love your blog entries and your posts dealing with SEO! This post was especially helpful, as I really haven’t felt like coming out of pocket 300 bucks for a Yahoo Directory listing. Thanks so much and keep up the good work! :)
Admin: Thanks Mike… My only regret is that this post really never got much traction. That kinda blows me away, actually! It sure doesn’t hurt to try. I gladly rolled the dice with five minutes of my time… Ya never know!
PS I really liked your websites nice and simple design. Plus you’re using a blog… Blog more often and you might find that you get a following if the info is truly insightful and fresh!
