Keyword Luv Follows Comment Luv Both Deleted

Welcome to the Google Places SEO Citations blog at Tucson SEO Solutions.

This blog covers local SEO which is dominated by Google, Google Places and the need for citations. The blog also covers just about any thing related to Google search results and related topics. I hope that you might glean some useful resources while you are here.

Keyword Luv Follows Comment Luv

Both Deleted

Yes, it’s true Keyword Luv has been deleted. It follows the deletion of Comment Luv about a year ago. I can not longer tolerate the spam that these plugins produce. They are great tools for getting attention. Unfortunately, they produce the wrong kinds of attention.

When I used to blog comment for links I would seek out blogs that use these plugins. In this regard, I was no different than any other savvy link builder. The difference was that I actually would read the posts and leave useful comments. But I was the exception.

I have decided that I can no longer except all of the spam what they attract. My Scratch My Back Marketing plugin requires a 150 character comment to be considered for a link. That slowed things down but soon the comments got longer. Even with many useful comment, they often had the link removed. That was because the commenter chose to use only keywords and not the name@keyword format.

It just goes to show that most commenter’s are lazy and short sighted. When I blog commented for links I made it a point of checking what kinds of comments got links. I figured it made no sense to waste my time just using keywords to only have them deleted.

Will it make a difference… That’s not likely. When the blog was No Follow I still got huge volumes of spam.

Update 06/01/2011: This didn’t stop the spam, but the removal of my Do Follow posts did.

What say you?

I feel your pain with the daunting task of trying to run a useful blog and having to deal with an over abundance of spammers. I don’t think it would be so overwhelming if the spam were from actual human beings. The problem comes in to play when you can program bots to wreak havoc on blog posts in large numbers and short periods of time.
All you can do is hang in there and keep on keeping on. Do your best and let the rest fall into place.

Sorry for getting spammed a lot but did you try using akismet to block spam? At least it will help discard the very obvious spam comments. Also did you know that by reading spam comments and reporting them as spam you are actually helping to fight spam?

Aw, this was a truly top quality publish. In theory I’d like to write like this too – taking time and real effort to make a really good posting… but what can I say… I procrastinate alot and by no means seem to obtain something done.

  • Can I just tell you I think you are doing a great service. I have been preaching this to my clients for years now. Still, it’s hard to get people to understand that the purpose of social media is not to drive people to your website or build sales or anything other than (in my opinion) build vibrant communities. I love your perspective. And you speak to it so beautifully. Thank you.

Great comment but it is unrelated to this post!

for those who want to find keywordluv blogs to comment, just use google and type “this site uses keywordluv” of course replace the words in the “”
but remember not to spam the comments, as moderators will simply not accept your comment. actually comment on the topic and you should be good to go. :)

Sorry to hear that you had to remove the plugins. I came by pretty often when I was building my site about 18 to 24 months ago. It was nice to get a link, but I spent quite a bit of time and learned a lot from actually reading your articles about SEO.

The sad thing is the spammers just keep going whether you have the plugins or not. So I just set up my akismet and honestly it filters at least 95% of the spam that I get, so I still have the do follow and commentluv plugin on my site.

    Glad to have helped!

I can feel your pain. I do blog commenting too to get a link here and there BUT also to leave valuable comments, AFTER reading the post, just as you say you used to do. I mean – why not leave valuable comment to get something in return?!

keywords not allowed here or spam!
