Do You Play To Win V 2.0

March 9, 2010

We believe that the process of search engine optimization will help almost any website soar in the search rankings. Given enough time and resources it is possible for almost any website to rank well in the search results, by that we are talking about the first page of the Google results.

Any successful SEO provider knows that if you go where the crowds aren’t you will be successful. That’s why so much effort goes into Keyword research. The huge benefit here is that using long tail search you have less competing sites and that your visitor is now highly targeted and motivated to buy.

A good example of a long tail search would be the search for “increased website traffic Tucson” There is no doubt that the person using this search query wants more traffic to their website and that it has a Tucson customer base.

Do you play to win?

Update 03/09/2010:

That was a very simple though that I blogged about a few years back but it speaks to my philosophy On Search Engine Optimization or more specifically Google SEO. I always reference Google because they are the search market leader world wide. About the only market that Google does not dominate is China.

I take a game approach to SEO and I play to win for myself and my clients. This is why we rank for over 90 Keyword phrases. It is also why we have never failed to get our clients website onto the first page of Google for multiple keyword phrases. I often see this business as a professional sports team. And like a professional team we train daily to stay on top of our game. We regularly review our analytics to see where we are strong and where we might improve with a little tweak here or there.

We also are constantly manually monitoring where are at the the search results compared to our competitors. If you rely on automated search rankings tools you will only get results on the site that you are monitoring. You will miss out on the big picture in your markets. In sports this would consider this to be reviewing game film. I want to know if we have any new competitors in our markets that may pose a threat to our dominance.

Everything that we do has a specific purpose. I never want to be surprised by a competitor and allow them to gain an advantage. I love winning and I want my clients to be in a position to win as well. This diligence is why all of our clients have ended up on the first page of the Google results. If you allow a competitor to sneak up on you they will become embolden and more difficult to dissuade that your market is too difficult to overcome. In my home market there has been dozens of new competitors over the last year or so. Many of them have already abandoned this market as I am not willing to allow them to gain any traction.

One of the long time players here has just about given up any hope of getting any organic traffic in Tucson. This has forced them to search nationally for visitors by paying for their traffic through Google AdWords. Because we play to win we have never had to use Pay Per Click and we likely never will!

Do You Play To Win?

Website Are Like NASCAR V 2.0

March 8, 2010

I wrote a series of posts back in 2007 well before this site had a blog. I had a page that I used like a blog and I updated it on a regular basis. The problem was that my visitors could not make any comments. This was one in a series of posts where I compared websites to different things to make a point. I compared them to a high maintenance girlfriend. That one was later edited by Geri. I have compared them to apple pies as well.

Lately, I have been paying more attention to NASCAR since Danica Patrick has been driving in these races.  She hasn’t fared very well yet. I hope that you enjoy this post as much as I have had writing it and reading the responses. Even though the posts is several years old it is still relevant today.

Here is the original post, Websites Are Like NASCAR!

Recently it dawned on me that websites and race cars have a lot in common. A race car team puts a lot of time, training and effort into their high performance machine. They pay lots of attention to the smallest details and are constantly fine tuning the engine and suspension. These two must work in harmony for the team to become a champion. Successful websites are no different in that they also require many pieces of the machine and team to be in harmony. Websites must also pay attention to details and fine tune to the ever changing needs of the search engines through effective optimization of the source code and content.

The other part of this website team is the user experience. Every thing must work and it should work effortlessly. Your site should be a well oiled machine that converts visitors into customers. The visitor wants to walk away a winner by feeling they made the right choice going with your team.

So SEO then becomes like the racing teams pit boss making adjustments and fine tuning the website to produce peak performance. However, you must be able to adapt to the changing environment to become a champion. During a race the team may use multiple types of tires often adjusting and changing through out the race.

A successful website team is no different. We who practice SEO have to make sometimes drastic changes quickly to adjust to how search engines, especially how Google handles the acquiring of website links. Managing a website requires the same attention to detail as a NASCAR racing team, you want to keep it well tuned and ready to win the race.

Are you ready to win the search engine race?

An extra thought: Way too many website owners have this allusion that SEO is a one and done process and this is so. The belief is wrongly fostered by SEO providers who sell packages to meet a price point. They never bother to tell their clients that like a NASCAR team their websites will need constant attention to be successful. You will need to make many changes along the way to succeed in racing and with SEO!

I personally loathe competitors who sell to price points and never explain that SEO is never a one and done proposition.

Niche SEO What A Concept V 2.0

March 7, 2010

Yes, this is yet, another look down this blogs memory lane. Niche SEO What A Concept is one of the posts that I really enjoyed and I am going to take another look at today.

I have grown to really appreciate Niche SEO and the long tail keyword phrase. The reason is very simple it is very easy to obtain high results rankings when entering into niche markets. As I have often pointed out that local SEO is all about Niche Markets. When you define any product or service by a geographic location you have created a niche market. I still cringe when I see local businesses that still are using Google AdWords to drive traffic to their websites. It is usually a waste of money.

Niche Markets however, are not limited to a single geographic area. For many companies the lack of competitors in their markets define them as niche. My first large account was from a company that I had previously work for in another century. They manufactured dust collection equipment used in manufacturing processes. There is only a very small group of competitors globally for these products. Yet, after eight years their website was doing poorly in the search results.

The interesting challenge for this business was that several other markets were competing in the “dust collection” category. They were competing with direct competitors. They also were competing against vacuum cleaners and home dust collection units. This actually made this niche way more competitive than it would initially appear to be. Fortunately, none of these industries had embraced SEO yet.

As it turned out I was able to rank their site high onto the first page of the Google results for dust collection. This came as a surprise to me. I had originally told them that because of competing industries in this market that this likely would not occur. This is why I like niche markets so much. There is little competition to begin with and most of your competition will likely not be actively deploying SEO or a link building program.

What amazes me even more is that I have been able to conquer dozens of SEO related long tail keyword phrases in an industry that knows the rules and the ropes. This has in most cases been extremely easy to do. I think my brethren often rely on AdWords when they can not succeed in the search results themselves.

I known that I have recently noticed one of my direct competitors here in Tucson has begun to actively use AdWords to gain business. They can’t get business by out ranking me in our home market so they have had to depend on paid traffic. They had an opportunity in the past to outsource to me and choose another path now they pay for almost every visitor.

This is the path many businesses take when they can’t rank well and is so sad because niche markets are so easy to overcome.

Here is the originate post Niche SEO What A Concept:

We live in Tucson, Arizona, which is a website marketing backwater of sorts. Most business owners that I speak with at my many networking events have little knowledge of the services that we provide.

I ran a local SEO meet-up group but we were lucky if 5 people showed up. So it’s not easy to find a group to talk shop with. Desperate to mingle with others in the industry I traveled the 125 miles north to Phoenix to attend an SEO Meet-up group there.

It was run by a woman from New Mexico. She holds the Arizona franchise for a training academy and travels here monthly to provide training and to market herself through this group.

I was especially thrilled by what I had learned at this gathering. The focus of the meeting was to share our favorite SEO tools and website. It’s always nice to come across useful resources, especially the ones that are free.

In a private conversation after the meeting I discovered that this woman had been providing SEO services and training for seven years. Which is to say, a way long time in this industry.

I mentioned that we specialized in niche SEO and she expressed amazement at what she just heard. The concept of Niche SEO seemed about as far away as Yuma, Arizona or her native New Mexico. She explained that she had never heard of niche SEO before today. Actually, I wasn’t sure who was more surprised me or her.

Our version of niche SEO is exactly what the name implies. We offer SEO to niche industries. It’s merely a more focused approach to SEO. We simply go where the competition isn’t. After all, isn’t this what keyword search and long tails are all about? It’s about finding niches that are related to our client’s products or services that others are not using.

Does your business have niche products or services?

Search Engine Optimization Is A Numbers Game V 2.0

March 6, 2010

This post is another in a series that has been pulled from our 2008 archives. This post does a very good job of explaining how I personally view the practice of SEO. For me SEO is truly a numbers game. It really is not so much about how many web pages appear in a search result. This has very little correlation to how competitive a particular market is. It merely reflects the number of pages in the Google index that include these words.

This site competes in markets that have well over 100 Million pages appear in the Google index and we rank very well in these markets. However, these markets are no where near as competitive as the Phoenix SEO or Local SEO market which produce results that are lees than 10 Million. While I work on these almost everyday I still rank towards the bottom of the search results on the first page of the Google. Yet, I easily rank # 1 many time over for searches that produce 100 million or more results.

The number that really counts generally requires some research to determine. What you need to ascertain is the number of websites that are currently actively going after your keyword phrase. The next number that you need to obtain is the number of backlinks that each site has to the specific page being targeted. Now, you can begin to formulate a game plan to conquer your targeted keyword phrase. We in the industry call this a competitive analysis.

Just knowing how many backlinks that a web page has is just the beginning. You will now need to determine where these links are coming from. You will need to know if these links are Do Follow or No Follow and can you acquire links there as well. You will need to develop a link profile of your competitors. Once you have developed this information you will now know the number of links that should be required to overcome your competitors advantage and how much real competition that exists. Then, and only then, you will need to determine if this is a market that you want to fight to conquer. Let the games begin!

This is why I consider SEO to be a numbers game. Do you play to win?

Here is the original post:

SEO is as much a numbers game as anything else. Good basic SEO will only get you so far in the search rankings. We believe almost anyone with enough time and resources can obtain the first page of results for any search query. However, most companies do not have the funds or staff for such an undertaking. There are still many opportunities to reach the coveted first page of results.

Any successful SEO provider knows that if you go where the crowds aren’t you will be successful. That’s why so much effort goes into Keyword research. Keyword search, after all, is a billion dollar industry. You can look for long tail or obscure keywords to be successful. The huge benefit here is that using long tail search you have less sites competing for the keyword phrase that you have chosen, also your visitor is now highly targeted and ready for the sale.

A good example would be the search for “increased website traffic Tucson” There is no doubt that the person using this search query wants more traffic to their website and that it has a Tucson customer base. It just so happens that almost any day, if you did the search for “increased website traffic Tucson” you would find Tucson SEO Solutions in the #1 and #2 positions. We believe that you should practice what you preach or as we like to say if your going to talk the talk you have to walk the walk.

Many an SEO expert will read this and scoff, “That’s not a competitive search” and they are correct. However, it is the service that we provide and in our location. We should be at the top if we are any good at what we do. I am often amazed when I see companies offering SEO services and they can’t obtain first page rankings for themselves! This isn’t as uncommon as you might expect. We developed our keyword to reflect what we do and by our location. If you have a local business with a website you should be doing the same.

Do you need assistance developing your keywords to reflect your business and location?

# 4 Out Of 156 Million V 2.0

March 5, 2010

Lately, I have been going over my previous posts and refreshing the ones that I really liked. I particularly liked this post as I believe that it goes a long way to debunk the Google Sandbox theory. When I started this blog I used Do Follow Lists to promote the blog and site.

In a very short amount of time we were able to take our Do Follow Lists onto the first page of Google. While the content of that post (the lists) have been removed the post still rank very well, as in # 1 in the Google SERP’s. Not very many blog post are still ranking on the first page of Google almost two years later. If you know your market well and are willing to put in the effort you can rank well, and very quickly, in most markets.

The market for the keyword phrase Do Follow List and Do Follow Blog List has become much more competitive since then. When I first went after this phrase there were a lot of web pages that included these words on their page, as in 156 Million. However, not many of these where doing so for commercial purposes. That has changed dramatically since then with hundreds of sites selling some kind of Do Follow product. I seriously doubt that we would have this rapid success today. Often success in search and in life is all about timing.

Here is the original post # 4 Out Of 156 Million:

Our SEO practice is all about developing and exploiting niche opportunities. Since SEO is basically a numbers game, you want to target your keyword phrases that are actually being used, but that have only a few competitors. It comes down to the fewer competitors the better.

So while we do well at landing this website on the first page of results for SEO related searches, these would not be considered competitive. That’s the whole purpose of what we are trying to achieve.

So today, I read a question on a forum that I had never visited before. It asked “what is the most competitive keyword that you have ranked for?” I knew that we ranked high for the search “Do Follow List” but I never pay any attention to how many results came up on a Google search for this term. Well, the answer is that we are #4 out of 156 Million search results… Wow!

All of those ahead of us have had 8 months to a year or more advance lead on us. So to say that we are pleased would be an understatement. I am still a little bit in the clouds over this revelation.

We were able to accomplish this because we put in over 300 hours developing the list and marketing it effectively. The whole project was created as linkbait for the relaunching of our website and it has worked very well.

The bottom line here is SEO is not an easy fix, but if you are willing to put in the effort you will succeed.

Can You Meet Or Exceed These Google Search Results March 2010

March 3, 2010

I provide SEO services so it is very important that I actually perform well in this arena. Since June of 2009 I have produced a detailed report on how well we rank each month. Back then the site ranked on the first page of Google for 30 or so keyword phrases. I now, actively target about 100 keyword phrases. Of those keyword phrases we rank on the first page of Google for 93 different phrases. Some of these will include a plural version of a phrase. However, this minor difference can have a huge impact on the SERP’s. It might be the difference from be on the first page or not.

Out of these 93 keyword phrases we actually rank # 1 60 times. Not only that, 33 times have we ranked both # 1 and # 2. That is a slight improvement over last month. Another seven times the site ranks two pages in the Google results on the first page. That very good considering that I have spent much of the last three months caring for my critically ill soul mate.

I should note that this success can be directly attributed to the use of the Scratch My Back link building method. There was one quirk in the results for the phrases Detailed Website Audit and Comprehensive Website Audit. We have rank # 1 for both of these phrases for well over a year. Today, they were buried on page four and five. I haven’t a clue why this occurred. I managed to accomplish this even though I have had to take care of my critically ill soul mate!

What Are You Fishing For? V 2.0

March 2, 2010

I wrote this article originally back when the blog was very new and a lot has changed since then. This article is about linkbait something that we have specifically tried on several occasions. We launched the blog by promoting Do Follow blogs and Forums. It was a very successful effort if all you consider is getting noticed and acquiring backlinks. This project was mentioned on over 50 different blogs.

It also produced a whole bunch of spam comments for us. I really didn’t care at first because the blog was no follow back then. However, it unfortunately made it easier for these blogs on the list to be spammed. What we thought was a good idea turned out to be not so much a good idea. We updated and maintained these listed of  blogs and forums. We broke them down into categories to make them easy to use. We invested over 1,000 hours into that project before we ended up pulling them due to spam abuse.

I would follow this up with a program that we called The 109 Day Link Building Explosion. For 109 days I offered 5 short reviews of sites that provided Do Follow backlinks. I also started encouraging my program readers to consider Scratch My Back Marketing. This drove a huge amount of traffic to our site but these visitors ignored my requests to leave a useful comments. I would eventually remove this program as well.

Since then I have focused on promoting this site on other sites by using Scratch My Back Marketing. I have decided trying to lure spammers with linkbait just wasn’t what I wanted to do anymore. I still consider a well run link bait program to be very worth while, but it is definitely not something that I wish to do anytime soon.

Here is the original post. It was found to write as it included some references to where I grew up.

What Are You Fishing For

I love it when I read articles about linkbait. I really do love to read about creative linkbait approaches. There is so much of the same old do this or do that that on the subject it can get old quickly. So when I read about novel ways to lure people into linking to your website I pay attention.

It also reminds me of my days growing up along the banks of the Allegheny River and the French Creek in rural Franklin, Pa, as in Pennsylvania. Except that we called the creek a crick. I know go figure, but that slight regional variation is very important when considering keyword development, but that’s for another post.

As a youth in rural Pennsylvania there wasn’t much to do other than to go fishing. So I did a lot of fishing with two major rivers within walking distance. When fishing you generally choose what fish to target on any given day based a multitude of factors such a time of day, water conditions, available food sources, and what you ultimately want to catch.

Then I had to choose which river to I was going to fish that day. I would have to choose between the huge Allegheny River or the smaller but robust French Creek. Once the river choice was made I would have to choose between slow deep waters or faster shallower waters. There is a lot to consider if you want to be successful fisherman.

Now, I would have to have to choose my bait wisely to match my prey of the day. That choice was based on a myriad of environmental conditions, if I wanted to be successful. It also had a lot to do with what I had available. Your bait must be attractive to your targeted fish and be delivered in a way that induces a bite when you want.

Choosing a linkbait for your website is very much like fishing. The bait needs to be targeted towards the group of websites that can provide you useful relevant backlinks that are Do Follow. This is where effective linkbaiting can be very difficult. It can be very easy to create a bunch of links with a very creative baiting method, but getting the desired fish to bite is a lot more difficult.

As any seasoned fisherman knows you can catch a lot of unwanted fish while going after a targeted species. The same thing is true with any linkbaiting method. So when developing linkbaiting programs or methods don’t loose site of your target.

There is another huge benefit to linkbaiting for the blogger that is not often written about. A good linkbait effort can generate hundreds of comments. If your blog is part of a website, those comments provide lots of fresh content that will boost the overall website in the SERP’s.

This is where a great page title that includes a targeted keyword phrase or two can be very beneficial. When titling your page focus on a targeted keyword phrase. Your linkbait comments can break you into the first page of results for that targeted keyword phrase. So linkbait if done correctly can not only supply you with a flood of new links to can assist your website in the SERP’s.

Almost two years later I still enjoyed reading this post and I am amazed that I wrote it!

An SEO Gets Shopped V 2.0

February 27, 2010

This post goes back in time to when we first began to domination all searches related to SEO and internet marketing in Tucson. We are were just beginning to emerge nationally as a force to reckoned with in the SEO industry in the US. I will interject some points as I go.

If you have been any business long enough a competitor will dial you up on the tele or, as the lazy ones do, they send a email to get the shopping going. They always start the conversation off by inquiring about the fees that you charge. This is especially true if your product or service pricing is not posted on your website which ours are not. One must be quick and clever to determine who is a real potential client and who is a competitor trying to acquire your pricing structure.

The shopper is rarely an established player in your industry, but they could be. This is where I love to being to direct the conversation to where I am the inquirer. The shopper usually doesn’t have a website yet or they are in the process of acquiring a business that has an existing website. Then there is the new kid on the block who starts of with “I have a client.” That may be true or they are breaking into the business and bidding on a job and that are looking for pricing guidance.

I don’t have a problem with this at all. I have done this hundreds of times over the decades myself so I am very familiar with the sport and I play it well!. When someone calls I’m a very good judge of who is real and who is not or at least I have convinced myself that’ this is so.

Another clear giveaway is if someone starts off by asking a whole bunch of questions without identifying themselves first, you can almost be certain that you are being shopped.

If they pause or stumble when you ask these questions you know you’re being shopped.

• What is the domain name?
• What is your business?
• What do you want your website visitor to do on your website?
• Who are you trying to market?

If the visitor hesitates on any of these questions you can be sure that your time is being wasted by a shopper. However, those who are skilled shoppers may be prepared for these questions. They are a little harder to catch. After all I role play the call many times before I shop a business. If you know how to ask the right questions it can be easy.

If someone seems more interested in pricing then anything else in the conversation I clearly explain that everything starts with a website review and that a paid service. I then I might ask them to email me from their website to get the ball rolling or something to that effect. If they are a serious inquiry they will email while you’re talking. If they make excuses, at this point, you know this is a waste of time and I quickly end the call. If they ask you why this is needed you can state its company policy to assure that this is a genuine sales call.

I mention this because I got shopped today by someone from the San Francisco Bay area code. We have just started targeting the area in advance of our new website launch. So I have been expecting these types of calls.

Sometimes the caller jumps right into the deep end of the pool from the get go. He asked if we did page titles, page descriptions, Meta tags, and ALT tags and what we charged. Well, nothing like cutting to the chase. What he didn’t realize is that real customers don’t talk like that. They just want to acquire search traffic and had read that SEO is the way to go. They don’t generally understand how we do what we do.

That’s was 2 years ago and things have changed dramatically since then. Callers  inquiring about our services are smarter and more aware about the process of SEO. When I began this business back in 2007 things were much different as far the the potential client knowledge of SEO. The response was mostly “I read something on a blog like you need SEO to rank well, but that’s all that I know.”

Yesterday, I was being shopped by an inexperienced shopper I thought I would have a little fun. It started with the basic questions I mentioned previously, and of course they didn’t have a website. They went on to explain that they wanted to market to the 48 states and that he was going to be selling computer parts.

Well, our website is very clear that we don’t provide service for highly competitive markets that are national. This is mainly due to cost to the custom and unrealistic expectations. I went on to explain that if his market was local we would gladly consider him as a client. I further explained that we only take on clients that when know going in can benefit greatly from our services. This guy wasn’t likely one of those.

Trying to take a website that sells computer parts nationally to the first page of Google is not a challenge that we will undertake then or now. While I noted that it can be accomplished given enough time and money but that it was not anything that we wanted to be involved with. Its just not our core market.

This person quickly became very defensive and started talking SEO slang and started to explain how it could be accomplished. I thought this guy is so clueless that he is being played and he doesn’t even know it. Then he started talking about Page Rank. I have never had a client or potential client that knows what Page Rank is. Now this person is talking straight-up SEO shop talk. To this day I have never had a real potential client who knew anything about Page Rank. This was so obvious that I could barely contain my laughter

Since I had flushed him out the conversation needed to end. I politely ended the conversation by informing him that we don’t work on these kinds of sites, I thanked him for his inquiry, and before he could say anything, I wished him a good day and hung up the call. I have become very skilled at ending a conversation quickly and abruptly when I have finally gotten bored.

The moral of the story is if you’re going to shop someone get the story straight first and don’t sound like you know so much that you really don’t need my help. If this caller knew about page titles, Meta tags, page descriptions, and ALT tags then why would they need me? Really, folks people who make legitimate inquires generally don’ understand SEO and will never use SEO jargon.

Update 2010:

With the economic slowdown like many I have had sometime on my hands. When I get shopped these days I am more likely to get up on a soapbox an give a long winded lesson on how we provide ethical services based only on the specific needs of each client. I go into great detail about our manual link building program Called Scratch My Back Marketing.

I also provide a detailed explanation about our website review. I go through just about every step in our processes. I provide them a map, a oral blueprint of how to provide services that assure that the clients needs are assured. If by change it turns out that it an actual potential client then they will certianly know that they are dealing with a professional.

For the shopper, I am an unashamed braggart. My attitude is, and I express to whomever I am speaking with. When I simply state “the difference between myself and most other SEO providers is that we simply this; I like to think that I work smarter and I put in more hours at this than they do.” If you are willing to do what it takes you will succeed. I also remind my inquirer of our monthly ranking report. I also never fail to mention that we have never failed to get a client onto the first page of the Google results (pause for effect) multiple keyword phrases.

While I provide a huge insight into how I practice SEO I never allow myself to be placed in a position to make a guess about how much a project will cost. There is good reason for this becuase I don’t know who there competition is and what they have done SEO wise. All of our processes are based on a competitive analysis. This requires a bit of research that can not be accomplished while on a phone call.

Real SEO professionals know that while packages sell well they are not designed to meet the clients specific needs. Beware of any SEO provider who offers packages. If they have not done a competitive analysis there is no way to be sure if any package will work. SEO packages are designed to sell, to make the seller money and to meet a certain price point expectation, if they actually work, consider yourself lucky!

Having said that, I must point out again that we have never failed to get a client onto the first page of Google for multiple keyword phrases. And this all started out with a competitive website review.

Use A Blog As A Newsletter Discussions Forum V2.0

February 25, 2010

I specifically wrote this post for a man named Sam. Sam is a sales and marketing professional that provides group sales training seminars. His website was in dire need of a redesign and or some SEO. Sam was great at in person selling but could not get his arms around internet selling. He is very active with newsletter marketing but this approach was eating up huge volumes of time.

The problem with newsletters is that they can generate a whole bunch of email responses. Many of them tend to ask the same or similar questions. After a while this can become very difficult to manage. My suggestion to him was that he add a blog on his website where he could post his newsletter. This way he could more easily manage the conversations about his articles. This I thought offered him a wonderful solution to his problem. But Sam needed to be sold and I am not that kind of person.

I am more interested in articulating the advantages and letting the client eventually come to a buying decision themselves. I don’t like a hard sell and  will not do this to others. I specifically wrote this article for him. He never did become a client. Oh, well!

Here is the original post from fall 2008.

Today we are going to take a look at using a blog on a business website. A blog is simply an online conversation. It is another channel that can be used to communicate with customers or potential customers.

First we want to suggest that if you are going to create a business blog that it be hosted on your website and not somewhere else. You never want to direct traffic away from your website to a blog hosted elsewhere. There is almost no advantage to a blog that is not on your businesses website.

Many websites include a sign-up form for their newsletter, as part of the design process, which they periodically send out in an email form. This is a very common practice used by coaches, trainers and consultants. The newsletter gets sent out and then the responses begin to trickle in one email at a time. If the newsletter is especially good, interesting or provocative it can generate a fair amount of emails.

The end result is that a collection of separate conversations begins to occur on the same topic but they are not connected to each other. The newsletter owner can end up answering the same or similar questions over and over again.

Our advice is to post your newsletter on your blog and then send it out and include a link or links to your blog. Then ask that the conversation be moved to the blog. One of the advantages of having a blog in combination with a newsletter is that it allows you to address the questions generated by the newsletter quickly. It eliminates answering the same question over and over. It can also stimulate an ongoing discussion between those who have read the newsletter. It can create its own little community interacting on your blog.

This format allows you to expand on your original newsletter concept in more detail. Most newsletters cover multiple topics and each can be given its own blog post and conversation. This process can breathe new life into your newsletter and create a much more powerful marketing tool.

Scratch My Back Marketing The Redux

February 25, 2010

I have been discussing what I call Scratch My Back Marketing since the beginning of 2009. I figured that it was finally time to write a specific post on the topic. Scratch My Back Marketing is based on a lifestyle and spiritual principal of giving to get. That’s right as in is better to give than receive. Now, I have nothing against receiving especially if it involves material resources such as capital. However, for our purposes I will settle for great comments left on my blog.

When I reference giving I do so with backlinks building efforts in mind. If you have been around internet marketing for any length of time you will have discovered the importance of links or backlinks. More specifically I am referring to other websites that link to your site. These links are known as backlinks.

These links are the foundation of Google’s algorithm. Applying SEO techniques to a website is good but it needs to be combined with a steady link building effort to be effective. Acquiring these links is becoming a huge challenge for website owners as fewer and fewer blogs and websites are offering Do Follow links for content or comments.

What I am suggesting is taking link building to another level. SMBM takes a multifaceted approach to link building. I consider link building as one leg in a three legged stool. The other two legs of this stool are branding and advertising. Every blog comment should be considered and opportunity for advertising your knowledge or for branding purposes. I have had quality comments left on a blog lead substantial business so I know that it is an effective marketing approach.

Now a days, we must locate Web 2.0 social media sites, blogs, and forums that allow user generated content to build these much needed backlinks. There are other options but they are generally ineffective, obsolete, or black hat. Google also has made it very clear that it does like the practice of buying and selling links (black hat) and it has taken action against sites that are involved in this practice.

So for these websites to be useful in gaining higher search rankings, these sites must provide Do Follow links. These Do Follow links have the ability to pass what is known link juice. It is this juice that will assist your website in gaining and maintaining high search engine rankings.

The idea behind Scratch My Back Marketing is that the website user will exchange useful content and comments for useful Do Follow links. It’s a simple matter of applying the concept of giving to receive. This is the genesis of my approach. This same approach can also be applied to sites that offer No Follow links. However, these No Follow links will not assist you in achieving higher search ranking. But they may be useful in generating website traffic and business.

SMBM allows both the website user (link builder) and the website owner to join together for the higher good of both. It is a classic example of a win/win situation. However, many people don’t buy into this approach. They like to put in as little effort as possible and they want to acquire the maximum benefit. That is why my blog has been requiring a 20 word minimum (150 characters) to acquire a useful anchor text Do Follow backlink for comments. If you want a link from my blog you must earn it.

These short comments will likely get deleted on most blogs worth posting on anyways. So I ask is it better to post 10 short “thank you” comments and maybe get one or two links or post 4 good comment on good blogs and get them all accepted? I always think long term and I am always considering the ROI for my efforts. As for me I will vote for quality comments every time.

Both scenarios will take about the same amount of time. Yes, leaving good comments takes more time as you actually have to read the post but it does pay off with better results for your efforts. This is often knows as your Return On Investment. The investment here is time.

The other option here is to add quality content such as a blog post like this. Many web 2.0 social media sites will allow you to sign your post and include a link or two. The idea here is to provide useful information while not self promoting. A dentist might write about preventative oral care while being careful not to do so be directly self promoting.

The key here is to follow the website policies as closely as possible. These social sites need, want, and desire your content as long as it is useful.

Quality comments also lend a certain amount respect and will assist in building a blogs reputation. These quality comments also provide what is commonly known as the fresh content bump for the blog or website. Google and the other search engines often reward fresh content by moving a blog post or site up in the search rankings based on this new content.

There will likely be an additional benefit if enough people by into the concept of Scratching My Back Marketing. It should encourage more bloggers to become or stay Do Follow. Let’s face it folks someone as got to stand up as a voice of reason here. The ability to acquire useful Do Follow links is getting more difficult everyday.

Update 08/27/2009:

I got tired of asking that commenters to leave a useful comment of at least 20 words of more on my blog. So I had a plugin created and called it The Scratch My Back Marketing Plugin. It currently requires that a blog commenter leave a minimum comment of 150 characters in length for the comment to be considered for posting on the blog. If the comment is too short it is automatically rejected. It also allows you to adjust the character requirement higher if you wish. Here is the link where you can download the free Scratch My Back Marketing Plugin. It works on WordPress blogs.

Update 02/20/2010: I did a case study on the effectiveness of the Scratch My Back Marketing program. I ran it the entire year of 2009. My website started out the beginning of 2009 ranking for 20 keyword phrases related to my business in the Google search results. At the end of the year that number had grown to exceed 80 keyword phrases.

Not only did my website benefit in the Google search results but it also produced the biggest contract for the year 2009. I had left a useful comment on someone blog. A reader liked my reply and followed the comment link back to my website. They liked what they saw and made any inquiry that later developed into business.

In closing I would like to ask you this: Have you ever visited someones website that left a comment that read “nice post?” Have you ever done business with someone that left a “nice post” comment? The answer to both of these is likely no!

Google Sandbox Theory Debunked V 2.0

February 24, 2010

This post first appeared back in May of 2008.

I had been reading every since I got into Internet Marketing about this mythical thing called a Google sandbox. I never believed it and by the time this blog arrived I had three sites that ranked right out the gate and stayed there. This would seem to put holes in this theory, at least for me.

I have since launched six other SEO related websites that very quickly began to rank well in the Google search results. Now, I came to the internet game in late 2006 so it is possible that this sandbox did exist at one time. However, over the last three and a half years I have seen no evidence of its existence.

Surprisingly this topic still comes up for discussion on forums all the time. This is why SEO can be so confusing for so many. Certain practices that once worked will become obsolete over time. However, those who make money on these services have a vested interest in keep the practices going. They want to continue to make money and they could care less if there methods still work. Search engine submission services come to mind. They were a valid service in a previous century but they are mostly useless today.

We re-launched this website back in April of 2008. To market the site we created some linkbait that we call our ‘Do Follow List.” It is a of lists of blogs that still pass link juice from comments on their blog.

Two months later the websites “Do Follow Page” sat at #4 in Google for the keyword phrase “Do Follow List.” Now, up until we began this linkbait effort we were not targeting this phrase. These three words never appeared together on the same page of our website previously to this project.

Now, the original post: Google Sandbox Theory Debunked

This is where the sandbox theory comes into the story. So if you follow the sandbox theory it should take six months before this keyword phrase would start to appear in the SERP’s for our site. Almost every SEO will tell you that any work done on a site will take that long to be effective.

Yet, this phrase, Do Follow List, was regularly appearing on the first page after one month. We did not want to write about this until it had reached the top 5 and stayed there for a week. Well, this just occurred.

You might think that we did so well because our linkbait produced thousands upon thousands of links. However, we were not flooded with tens of thousands of links. We did pick up about 2,000 or so links because of this project.

What I believe had the greatest impact was the comment activity on the blog where the list resides. The comments have dribbled in every other day or so and we responded to every question and almost every comment. We put social into our social media effort.

At the time of the original post there had been 90 comments. Currently (as of) Nov. 28 2008 there are now 345 comments. The search engines reward this kind of activity. The visitors and commenter’s enjoy being part of the conversation and seeing a lively discussion. Also their kind comments were very encouraging when the process was becoming tedious and boring (maintaining the lists.)

In less than 2 months we were able to rise to the 4th position in Google for a competitive keyword search “Do Follow List”. We are talking 156 million competitive results. The whole process required time commitments that have exceeded 400 hours and we are still counting.

So this is our evidence that the fabled sandbox doesn’t exist. I am so thrilled to have such documented evidence to debunk this theory. We have never believed in the sandbox after our first website went onto the first page of Google results quickly. Skeptics chided me on blogs and forums that it could not be done for a competitive keyword search. I think 156 million results make my point.

This accomplishment is partly due to that fact that few websites are actually making an effort to maintain their interest in the “Do Follow Movement.” We seized the opportunity and began planning our assault on this keyword phrase two months in advance of ever publishing the list. (this has since changed but we still rank at the top for this search)

So my friends there are no secrets in this business, except those held within the algorithms. If you really want to obtain the first page of results, it is obtainable; you don’t have to except sandbox theories. You really only need a burning desire to be a winner, a good plan that is well executed, time, and resources.

Success is within reach, you just have to want it bad enough and ignore those who say it can’t be done. Believe in the sandbox theory if you must for me is has never existed.

I Dont Twitter I Wont Twitter V 2.0

February 23, 2010

Back in May of 2008 I wrote the first version of I Don’t Twitter I Won’t Twitter. I did not have a complete understanding of Twitter at that time. So I am glad that the blog was new and that I didn’t have any traffic. I had compared Twitter to texting. This wasn’t to far off, but I had never used the service and I was just guessing. I wanted new content and I failed to do proper research.

I have since gotten on and off the twitter bandwagon. I still have an account but I may not have used t this year. I still get announcements that new people are following me which I find funny since I rarely post to Twitter. If I want to reach people that I actually know I will use Facebook. I only accept friends requests from those that I actually know.

I used to follow Andy Bailey the creator of the Comment Luv plugin. But I got bored getting his updates about his residential moving experiences and his personal life. I used to follow other known and not so known SEO’ers. But I stopped that as well. They were all just providing links to useless information. And I certainly do not care what you had for lunch. This position makes me an outcast in the SEO community and that’s ok with me.

I did a 3 month trial to see if I could benefit from Twitter. I would list daily blog post links. Then I checked Google Analytics. I discovered that Twitter traffic bounced 100% of the time. I also never had anyone leave a comment that said they saw me on twitter. So for me the ROI was just not there.

However, I wrote an article sometime ago about Dell using Twitter. Over a three year period Dell posted coupons on Twitter and they claimed to have made 3 Million in sales this way. So I discovered if your business uses coupons or offers changing entertainment it is wise to use Twitter. It seems to work very well for night clubs. Outside of a few industries I really think Twitter is a waste of time.

However, as you may have noticed it can be a great tool for social change as we have witnessed in Iran. I think the news updates on cable that use Twitter updates are mostly amusing. Without following CNN on Twitter I have no way of knowing how representative these updates really are. Some one makes the decision on what they air. Thus these Twitter updates on news programs may only reflect the producers bias and I not going to jump on Twitter to verify it myself.

Since Twitter offers almost no SEO value except for the profile links it is useless for me.

If you have found a way to make money on Twitter I surely would like to hear about it.

The Different Faces Of SEO V2.0

February 22, 2010

This post The Different Faces Of SEO was published back in May of 2008. I thought it was worth another look and some editing. The original post even misspelled Different as Diferent and it took two years to discover this!

Here is the original with edits and additions in bold.

There is a myriad of ways that you can describe the process of website optimization or Search Engine Optimization as it is more commonly known. There are the standard terms SEO or Search Engine Optimization.

But since we actually provide this service professionally we are more likely try to define a smaller niche within this industry (think long tail keyword phrases here.) Like any good SEO we would rely on our keyword development skills to create long tails for our keyword phrases that define us. I have become very fond of the long tails of search.

Here are some of the many ways that we describe ourselves.

Some of us take an organic approach as in: Organic SEO or Organic Search Engine Optimization, and others will add location into the mix, as with Tucson Search Engine Optimization.

Some will describe there skills to include location:

Tucson SEO   Tucson Search Engine Optimization Tucson SEO Solutions   Tucson Search Marketing Tucson Internet Marketing Tucson Website Marketing

Originally we targeted only Local SEO  This grew to include Local SEO Services, Local SEO Solutions, Local Internet Marketing Services, and Local Website Marketing Services and so on.

We have also grown our reach to target these Arizona cities. This includes Oro and Green Valley’s and Marana all of which are in the Tucson area. We also target the Phoenix area cities of Scottsdale, Glendale, Tempe, Chandler and Mesa successfully. And to the west and north we also target Yuma and Flagstaff.

Originally we targeted only Niche SEO. This now includes Niche Internet Marketing Services and Niche Website Marketing Services, as well as Niche Search Engine Optimization.

We targeted SEO Solutions,  Business SEO, and  Small Business SEO. We then added Small Business SEO Solutions and Local Small Business Solutions or Local Small Business Services.

Geo-targeted SEO and Geo-targeting SEO stayed the same as did Holistic SEO

I have not expanded on Real Estate SEO or Travel SEO.

I have often considered creating a page that targets Medical SEO

And to all of these you can exchange the SEO for Search Engine Optimization.

You could also market yourself as a positioning or ranking service. Perhaps, as someone who creates increased website traffic because that what our services do they produce more website visitors.

In fact I followed that advice and we now target things like Back Links Building Services, Quality Backlinks Building, or Backlinks Building Training just to name of few.

SEO is many things to many people but it is only about what can be done on a website. Many individuals consider link building as part of SEO as it has a direct impact on the search engine results page. However, since it is not something that is done on a website it is generally considered link building and not part of SEO. Some call link building SEM or search engine Marketing. We are part of this group.

Well, I have changed that position over the last two years. When you are providing Local SEO links are not a really big factor in many cases. However, when you are dealing with nationally competitive keywords links do play a vital role. So I no longer consider these two separate disciplines.

So as you can see there are many niches under the umbrella of SEO. You can even take Geo-targeted approach as we do and break any of these groups by location. So while it may be near impossible to break onto the first page for SEO or Search Engine Optimization it is possible to do so within any of these niches.

This was a very interesting post for me as it provided a glimpse of where I was and how I have adapted to this industry.

Flirting With The Big Leagues Of SEO – We Have Arrived

February 20, 2010

Flirting With The Big Leagues Of SEO: This was one of the first posts that I wrote when we launched this blog back in May of 2008. I thought that perhaps may regular readers might enjoy this look back.

Our Business has had tremendous success obtaining first page placement in the Goggle search results for SEO related search queries. This has all been accomplished in just over 14 months. We first began to study search engine optimization back in October of 2006. Our website developer, who offers SEO, told us if we ever got onto the first page it would take six months. (This was for a house cleaning business that we closed to launch Tucson SEO Solutions.) This is the standard line of many SEO providers.

The website that we are talking about was a local house cleaning service, Your Fresh Start. That website went to the first page of the Google results within 3 days and has been there ever since. We have since closed that business and have been providing SEO services since we launched our site in May of 2007. We currently are ranked # 1 nationally on Google for 5 searches that include the word SEO in the query string.

It truly blows me away every time I think about our success. We tell you this not to brag, but to verify that we do know our business well. However, one keyword search has eluded me thus far and it is “Local SEO.’ Since local SEO is the cornerstone that this business is built upon we would like to be on the first page for this search.

We re-launched this website in mid April of this year using WordPress. We had  settled in a regular spot on the third page around position # 35 and it stayed that way for two months. Then we re-evaluated the pages and tweaked our website. This adjustment had a positive impact. Then in June we started using forums that allows us to create Do Follow anchor text links that read “Local SEO.”

The website moved up the ranking for this keyword phrase and settled in at the # 17 position. Then in July we began to place links in every blog post that targeted our sales and services pages. Those anchor text links pointed to our other pages that we wanted to specifically target to increase there presence in the Google SERP’s both nationally and locally.

Recently, we have actually flirted with the first page of Google landing temporarily at the #4 position. We eventually settled in at the #11. For our website to stay on the first page will indeed be a difficult task. It is because local SEO is written about often on authority blogs and Forums. These established websites have a huge advantage over a much newer website such as ours. (We can now usually be found in the # 5 position for Local SEO now and we are in the # 1 position for Local SEO Services.)

However, they are most likely not talking about proving SEO for local websites, as we do. When those in our industry talk about local SEO they are talking about free listings in the Google and Yahoo local business maps. This is a hot topic that when written about on authority blogs tends to bump our site down the list. So yes, we are flirting with the first page of results we are not there yet, but then we like a good challenge.

We highlighted the changes that we made in and effort to point out that SEO is never a one and done process. When we re-launched our website and did not get the results that we wanted we took another look to see what else could be done better. Some of what we tried was just fine tuning. Still other efforts were experiments based on knowledge that we gleaned from other SEO professionals.

Update 02/20/2010: We are now definitely in the big leagues of the SEO ranks. There are a couple of key things that we did in 2009 that have rocked this site onto the first page of Google for over 80 keyword phrases. In January I began to implement the link building program that I call Scratch My Back Marketing. I also added header tags. Then I became a relentless backlinks builder.

Now, I still make mistakes when building links and stick links where they were not intended and I am given the boot. There are plenty of places on most social media sites where you can add some link code. The bio areas come to mind as one area. Some times the code is turned into links only to later be removed or the account is deleted. But that doesn’t happen often. What has happened is that I have been very good at locating web 2.0 social sites that allow blog posts. I simply re-write some of my 350 posts and place them on these sites. I end the posts by signing off with a call to action which usually includes a link or two.

The downside of all of this has been the economy going south. But I am still in business when others have closed there doors and I am grateful for this.

Shampoo SEO Revisited – 700 Keywords

February 18, 2010

If you have visited my blog since early December you will understand that life has thrown me a big old juice curve ball. I am referring to the critical illness (liver disease) that was struck my life partner and soul mate, Geri.

Having a loved one in and out of the hospital fighting for their lives can be a difficult situation at best. It can at times be a gut wrenching odyssey. This is why I am pleased to announce that she has responded extremely well and is currently undergoing outpatient blood transfusion therapy. Her liver failure has also had a deferential effect on her blood supply. Today all is well.

So there are some regular ongoing SEO practices that have been left undone. One of my standard SEO recommendations is what I like to call “Shampoo SEO.” What this is involves a review of your Google analytics information. Just like shampooing we consider this to be a rinse and repeat operation. We recommend this review be preformed every 30 days. It will show if what you have done is working and what needs to be improved if you pay attention.

Tonight (this morning) was another sleepless one for me and I had become bored with doing link building while performing research. So I thought I should check out Google Analytics while I was doing some other maintenance work. I first noticed that traffic was up about 20% since I last checked in December. That was a pleasant surprise.

I also noticed that my primary keyword phrase, “Tucson SEO” had increased by 22%, this again was a very pleasant surprise. I also noted that those who choose “SEO Tucson” did so at half the rate. This group, however, was 20% less likely to bounce. They stuck a round longer as well.

Put the piece of information that stood out the most was that over the last 30 days searchers used 700 different keyword phrases to reach the site. I don’t know about you but that blows me away. Almost every phrase recorded directly related to SEO, website marketing, and link building.

I am amazed that over 80 keyword phrases that I target and track and that appear on the first page of the Google results. However, that number pales when compared with the potential. This is just another example of why I have so strongly embraced and advocated for long tail keyword phrases. People think differently on just about everything and their search patterns and language vary greatly.  On keyword tool will ever provide this kind of information.

I like to call these keyword phrases the low lying fruit. It is relatively easy to rank well for these words and to stay there. If someone used an obscure phrase to find you the chances are good that other will as well. It usually takes very little effort to rank number one for these. Sure not many people will use these but since they appeared in your analytics its best to pay attention.

This site actually ranked # 1 for over 60 of these keyword phrases the last time I checked. Most of these phrases are 3 and 4 words long. I often begin to target one or two more phrases that I discovered through this Shampoo SEO process.

This is the kind of information that you just are not going to find using keyword research tools. That primarily because they are used infrequently. I like to call this being the big fish in a little pond.

So let me ask when is the last time that you did some Shampooing of your SEO?

Can You Meet or Exceed These Google Search Results Feb. 2010

February 17, 2010

This months Google search results for our targeted keyword phrases still managed to amaze me. Since November 23 of 2009 I have been dealing with a critically ill life partner. So getting anything done can be a challenge. Today, Geri returned home from the hospital after her 4th visit.

Tucson SEO and four of our Phoenix area sites have combined to rank on the first page of Google for a whopping 92 times over 88 Keyword phrases that we target. Tucson SEO accounted for 87 keyword phrases alone.

We managed to rank in the # 1 position 63 times. Re ranked both # 1 and # 2 39 times. We managed to rank two pages per keyword phrase another 8 times. With all of this success I did not some drop offs in rankings. We no longer rank both # 1 and # 2 for Niche SEO and dropped to the 4th and 5th positions. However, I must not take this phrase has never produced much traffic or business leads.

Getting business in tough economic times is why I have so strongly embraced the long tail keyword phrases. I would rather rank # 1 for Local SEO Services than # 5 for Local SEO. Once you get past the third position it becomes extremely difficult to acquire click troughs.

Here is how it all breaks down.

Pizza And Beer SEO

January 26, 2010

Yep, one of our standard recommendations to our clients is that they practice Pizza and Beer SEO. This is how it works. When you’re building a website keyword list you should gather a diverse group of friends, family, and business associates for pizza and beer at a local hot spot. A group of twenty or so should just fine.

Once you have the group together ask them all to make a list of words that they might enter as a search query to find your business on the web. Then sit back and enjoy your time together over pizza but hold of on the beer for now! Then after and hour or so repeat this process and record the results.

Allow your party to get started with the consumption of beer for the following hour. Now repeat the same process asking what keywords the group would use and record these results as well.

Now, your website keyword research kicks into high gear. Now, you will need create a database and record all of the information that you have gathered. You can now comb through your data to see what the common trends are and glean the gems that you might have easily overlooked.

The food and alcohol will affect each person differently and these changes will be observable in a different set of keywords that are developed. Another factor that comes into play is simply the passage of time. The longer that each person has to think about it the more likely that they will choose words that they hadn’t the first time.

It’s actually like having three different groups for market research for the price of one! Not only is Pizza and Beer SEO an effective keyword development strategy, you also save 66 % of the cost of surveying two separate groups. It also will cut you time cost in half.

You have no way of knowing what peoples state of mind this when they are searching. If you searchers is hungry or well feed these will effect how they think. If someone is highly stressed or under the influence these factors will play a significant role in determining what searches that they will use to find anything on the net.

You see, we understand that all successful websites are a collaborative effort between designer and client. The client does their keyword research and we do ours. Then together we combine this palette of words to paint a well defined and highly targeted website for both the search engine and the customer.

Update: 11/14/2008 I just presented a seminar on keyword development here in Tucson where we included Pizza and Beer SEO. The program and presentation were very well received.

Now, go forth to conquer the SERP’s in your market.

Do You Have An Amazing Ranking Story To Share?

January 26, 2010

That’s right Tucson SEO Solutions is doing some bragging today. The sites Local Internet Marketing page ranks # 1 in Google for Local Internet Marketing Services. That’s out of 573 Million web pages. What this means in reality is this. Over a half billion web pages include these four words that are currently indexed by Google.

Is that amazing or what. It trips me out (hippie speak here.) This page has ranked steadily in this position for about 5 months now. I have been able to consistently out rank websites that have been around even longer than Google! The crazy thing about all of this is that in some cases my competition has 10’s of thousands of more backlinks than I do.

So how did I accomplish this fete? Well, I simply applied myself and I began applying the principles enshrined in Scratch My Back Marketing. What I mean is that I use Web 2.0 social media sites and I add valuable and useful comments and content. In turn these sites provide useful Do Follow anchor text backlinks. It really was that simple and once I had chosen this keyword phrase for targeting it only took about six weeks to get to the top and to stay there.

That is why I cringe every time I read where someone is explaining that link building is difficult because I know that it isn’t. But none of this happens in a vacuum. It requires a well thought-out and executed plan along with lots of keyboard time.

An SEOs Love Story – This Is Not About SEO

January 25, 2010

I help people get there websites properly indexed by Google for their targeted keyword phrases. The idea is to their their websites high up in the search engine results, and more specifically in the Google search results. I really enjoy what I do as it can have an enormously positive impact on my clients business. I believe in a triple win philosophy where the searcher is happy because they found may clients site and they had their want fulfilled. The client is happy because their website is finally producing income and I am happy because they are happy. I really love what I do. I don’t sell useless products or services like many SEO do just to make a buck.  My work is truly a labor of love.

But it is a woman named Geri that I meet eight years ago and who I grew to love that has my attention, now. She is dying. She doesn’t like me saying that because she doesn’t want to loose hope. I however must deal with the cards that I have been dealt. Her liver is shot and when your liver isn’t working lots of other body parts begin to fail as well.

She ended up being hospitalized on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. I took her there again on New Years Day. Every time the visits are getting closer together. On the way to the hospital she jokingly asked what’s the next holiday. Then she wryly asked isn’t there a presidents birthday coming up. Faced with adversity she went for levity.

We don’t have insurance so the emergency room is our entry point for health care. Every time we leave they give us treatment plans that are never fulfilled because we can not pay for them. We have tried to get government assistance but we are still waiting.

Yesterday, they could barely draw blood because she never got the transfusions that she needs ans has lost a lot of blood. The liver helps the blood clotting process and without that she bleeds easily. I feel so guilty that this business could not been able to support her medical needs. I am a very emotional person and writing about our struggles is my release valve.

But out of  all of this there was a success story. We made it to the library on New Years Eve. It was our first trip outside the home together since she was put on oxygen 24/7. It may not sound like much but for us it was like a holiday. Later we sat in bed together and talked,  not only that,  we laughed and smiled. I allowed my silly side to come out and her smile seemed to be the happiest smile that I had ever seen. She actually looked cute from behind her oxygen cannula. It was as if it wasn’t there. I will always cherish that moment, her smile, and that radiant glow. Then she began the downward spiral again.

She would not let me stay this time in the emergency room. She said she could not tolerate seeing me sad sad and uncomfortable and that it was too hard on her. She’s dying and she worrying about me. That is what I would call An SEO love story. As it was I could not sleep. I just put on another pot of coffee and I wait and when I can not wait any more I will call the hospital to find out what room she is in… or if…

An update 01/25/2010: Well, Geri has managed to stay out of the hospital for about 18 days until recently. She has returned again for the fourth time in less than three months. This time she has acquired pneumonia even though she has had a recent vaccine shot. Apparently, it does cover all the various varieties. This is scary stuff. Ever time that she has returned to the hospital a few pints of blood got her feeling better almost withing 24 hours, but not now the rules are different this time around.

I am scared and trying very hard not to show it. She asked me today “Do I  looked any better today? The nurses said that I look better.” OMG, I wanted to cry. My response was “You look marvelous, darling.” All the while I was praying that she was to tired to read the pain in my face. I quickly changed the subject.

Again, I want to thank all of who have visited and left us with your kind words and thoughts. I especially wnat to thank a blogger named Mitch who was returned to follow this story and has left very warm and kind messages.
